What can I do to make my renders less grainy? Is there something in mantra or the lights that I am missing?

I think I figured it out. The geo node that I was using was the cause of the issue. If there is a better way I'd love to know.

without an example scene file to have a look at, it is difficult to comment.

Different issues depending on the render engine you are using: pbr, mp, rt
There's at least one school like the old school!
