Hello everyone,

I have a strange error when I try to start Houdini, an error window appears with this message :

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\…

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Last Thursday everything worked perfectly, I'm on the apprentice version, but now I can't even launch the program.

I tried to update my windows 7, uninstall and reinstall houdini but the error is still there, the window even pop up during the installation.

Does any of you has a suggestion ?

Thank you

Did Windows automatically install new updates, or did your graphics driver automatically update itself?

I manually installed new windows update, but after the problem first occurred. And as far as I know I did not touch my graphics driver just before having the problem.

Could a reinstallation of the graphics driver solve the issue ?

i had similar issues few years ago. windows crashing most 64bit software.
only solution i found was reinstall of the whole OS.

in the end i figured out it was my ssd drive.
usually it happen after windows made a checkdisk
on launch and tried repairing something.

your problem might be differnt. not sure. but i remember it also was telling me about MSVCR90.dll..

I don't think you need to reinstall Windows if it was working fine already? Is this 32-bit or 64-bit Windows?

Hi there,

I manage to solve the problem, the issue was with environment variable. I had HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE = 1 and HOUDINI_UI_QUEUE_SIZE active at the same time and it made the application crash.

Now I only use HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE = 1 because I have the
NT_GeneratorThread::queueEvent event queue full. Event dropped.
error.

But the error keeps happening when I render, it's painful when I have to render 240 frames and I have the surprise to see the problem after 50 frames.

I'm on a windows 7 64bit.

I wouldn't expect those environment variables to interact. It's probably more likely due to the fact that you have HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE=1.
