Problem displaying geometry in shaded mode (Intel HD4600)

Hello, I got some issues displaying geometry in shaded mode in the viewport in H14. In wireframe mode I can see the geometry as expected. But as soon as I press “w” to switch into shaded mode the geometry disappears entirely.

Via the environment variable HOUDINI_OGL_DUMP_SHADER_ERRORS I got the following error message:

Geometry shader compile:
0:5(12): warning: extension `GL_EXT_gpu_shader4' unsupported in geometry shader
LINK:
FS compile failed: bad cond code

Mesa 10.1.3 implementation error: Failed to compile fragment shader: FS compile failed: bad cond code

My system:

Linux Mint 17.2
No dedicated graphics card
CPU: i7-4790K with Intel HD4600 graphics
MESA driver: 10.1.3 (current version for Linux Mint 17.2)

Btw, I had similar problems with H14 under Windows 7 with the latest graphics drivers from Intel.

Any solution for this?

Thanks!

Your graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements. Just get used to the viewport being a proxy for render. Or switch to the ipr Render View.
Using Houdini Indie 20.0
Windows 11 64GB Ryzen 16 core.
nVidia 3050RTX 8BG RAM.

Thanks. But at the “Graphics Hardware Requirements” page the Intel graphics HD 4600 is listed as supported for H14. So I think it should work.

What do you mean by “switch to the ipr Render View”? How do I do this?

Hm, wish I knew what “Bad Code Bond” meant. It's failing to compile the fragment shader for some reason. I guess the error must make sense to Mesa developers, but it doesn't tell me anything about what code is causing the failure.

Thanks for your reply. Meanwhile I found a solution. I updated the MESA driver to version 10.3.0 directly from 01.org. Now it works fine for me.
Maybe there is a bug in the current MESA version 10.1.3 delivered with Linux Mint 17.2.

That's good. The message was probably some sort of internal compiler error that the Mesa team has resolved.

I am new to Linux and just installed Houdini 15.0.244.16 (production build) on Mint. Running into the same problems No geometry visible in shaded mode.

So far I downloaded mesa-11.0.5.tar.xz from ftp//ftp.freedesktop.org/pub/mesa/ and extracted it. Is this the correct one?

If so, how can I update a MESA driver?
