Trying to run Houdini Apprentice on Ubuntu 15.04 and it crashes before it even loads to the interface. I was able to retrieve the error log, here is what it says. Not sure what this one means actually…

The stack trace looks like it failed to initialize OpenGL to me.

You should log a bug for that or contact support for help. Thanks!

Have you installed the proprietary Nvidia or AMD drivers?

hmmm… trying to get the most updated version of OpenGL on here and it doesn't seem to be fixing the problem. This is a slightly older laptop, so it may not have a new enough card in it to deal with this. Here is what it is running:

VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 00 )
Subsystem: Dell Device 040a
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 27
Memory at f0000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
Memory at e0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable)
I/O ports at 70b0
Expansion ROM at <unassigned>
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: i915

twod

No, it is running Intel integrated, so the Nvidia and AMD drivers probably won't work. I am not looking for this to do anything too heavy, basically just some procedural polygonal modelling for 3d printing.

Ah, it's an Intel i915 according to the dump. That unfortunately won't work with Houdini. Sorry

Ok twod… thanks. I hadn't thought of that. The laptop is just a smidge too old apparently.
