Hey guys,

I'm trying to model over a background reference image with semi-transparent (ghosted, x-ray) geometry, think 3DSMax alt+x.
I've searched the forums, docs.. came up empty. Sounds soo simple right?

Any help would be appreciated.

Press the D-KEY while your mouse is in the 3D viewport and click on the Background TAB. You can specify a background image for the perspective camera viewport.
Using Houdini Indie 20.0
Windows 11 64GB Ryzen 16 core.
nVidia 3050RTX 8BG RAM.

I like modeling with a reference image displayed on a Grid as a texture as an alternative to setting the background. If you want you can move the Grid containing the image around and position it how you want! Rotate the Grid 90 degrees to make it a background.

The beginning of this displacement example video will show you how to do it with with just 3 nodes! Of course for the reference image you do not need to bother with displacement.

Go to the display options, and in the Markers tab, turn on “Ghosted” (last column).
