I'm trying to scatter points based on an alpha image, I found this tutorial, but it's based on the old scatter node. How can I achieve this with the new scatter node?

Drop down an AttributeFromMap before the Scatter. Then set the density variable to whatever you chose in the AttributeFromMap, typically Cd. Just write your alpha out as a black and white image and read in that file for the map.
