Hi,

Just curious if this scale of Fluid Simulation is even possible to create using a single computer?

I would say yes, that is possible using a single computer. That is a pretty low budget example.

I think you would need at least 32GB of RAM. Ideally 64GB will allow for more detail but the scale in that posted scene is way off, as well as lighting and camera angle. One thing going for you is the length of the shot. The entire scene is fairly short so even if you face some final sim times with high per-frame times you won't need more than a few hundred.

Yeah, I would want a much nicer, bigger budget version. That effect was too small and too short.

I currently have an i7 6950x with 128GB of ram.

For that style shot I would work out the motion first at a higher particle separation then lower it once you feel good about the way the forces are moving your fluid around.

You may want to take a look at leveraging pumps with staggered activation over time.
