The list the pops up showing the operators/channels in the path you are typing…I think you should be able to just hit the arrow keys to scroll that list if it pops up…just an idea

When its displaying the syntax of an expression, it can sometimes cover enough space to block what I am typing…

Yes sometimes this is a little annoying.
You can use in these cases the expresion editor, when you are over the text field you can press Atl+e to open the expression for this parameter.
There you won't have space problems.

You can also turn it off in the Main Preferences somewhere.

Sorry, it was an idiom problem ops:
I misunderstood the post and answer something complitelly different.
Yes you can disable the popup help in the expression editor and textpor in the Main Preferences->General User Interface.
And yes sometimes this popup is alittle slowly and annoying.
But at least is a help, and that's enough in Houdini
