Randomize PolyExtrude distance per Primitive & force extrusion in single direction (not in Normal Direction)

Super new to the program, this may be a dumb question.

Trying to extrude a grid on a per-primitive basis. I know it was possible [vimeo.com] in previous versions, but it looks like that method's been phased out, as far as I can tell. That's my major question.

I'm also wondering how you could control the extrusion such that every new face is translated in a certain direction, as opposed to allowing every face to extrude in the original direction of the normals. Similar to how the Extrude Volume node does it.

Polyextrude is unchanged since that video was created.

There doesn't seem to be a way to override the displace direction with a per-face attribute. A point attribute can be used, but then faces that share points will be extruded in the same direction resulting in a connected extrusion. The local x/z frame can be overridden with an attribute, but this only affects transform front in local mode, which cannot be controlled by an attribute.

Submit an RFE if you find this capability to be lacking.
