Mantra (or any other renderer) adds spheres to my scene

Hi,

I'm trying to render a scene which came originally from the Blender Cloud.
See previous blog post [www.janwalter.org] about it.
I just bring in the geometry as .objfiles and it looks like something goes wrong when the scene gets translated to a renderer (e.g. Mantra or Arnold):

Above the spheres are less visible because of the lighting, but with Arnold's ndoteyeshader the same problem arises:

Any ideas where those spheres come from and how to fix it? I assume something is wrong with the geometry, maybe a closed volume is assumed or something?

BTW I just double checked that all .objand texture files are referenced relative to the $HIP file and you can download the scene from here:

spheres are usually unconnected points

so either on your Objectchange Render As Points to No Point Rendering
or in your geo append Add SOP and check Remove Unused Points

Waht Tomas said!

The obj level containers all have the default setting of "Render Unconnected Points."
Which is a bit stupid.

It does flag to you though that your meshes have some shitty topology.
