How to set the opactiy for UV islands?

The default UV island looks too opaque. I can barely see the UV grid underneath:
Is there a way to change their opacity? Also, how could I remove the "grid"? (not UV grid, but the blue-ish measurement grid above it.)

Have you pressed the "D" key and adjusted background brightness?
