Hi all,

New to Houdini and trying to import a character for Grooming.

Character has been casched to .abc (with written UVs) from Maya.
When importing in a clean Maya scene, it shows it has the UVs included.

In Houdini we have the UV view, but this remains empty when loading the alembic file, even when using the unpack node as recommended.

If I export the model as an obj with uvs, it does show the UVs in houdini.

Its probably a beginner mistake I'm making, so beginner that I have been unable to locate this problem on an existing post.

kind regards,
Max

Just checked with an Alembic file coming from SI and the UV's are fine in Houdini.

But maybe you could quickly solve this by either using the Alembic as a blendshape for the Obj, or transfer the UV's from the Obj to the Alembic with the "attribtransfer" SOP ?

can you attach your exported .abc?
doesn't have to be the full model, just isolate a few polys and export those
since it's possible that your uvs come in as specifically named uvset and are not marked as texture coords, or something, but it's hard to tell without a file

Hi Toonafish and tamte,

Thank you for your response! I already found the solution over the new year.
In case others read this later:

This solution was as beginner as I expected.

The original abc did indeed not have UVs,
Then I added the UVs and re exported the abc, only to find out it did not solve the problen in Houdini,
I then wrote this post, after checking it had UV's in maya and as OBJ and tripple checking existing posts.

The next day I found out I had to 'reload geometry' on the abc node, it was simply still displaying the old model.

It then worked.
