What do you mean? All of Houdini is rendered using OpenGL.

There used to be a toggle in H8 that allowed you to see vex shaded surfaces
through the OpenGL. Perhaps this is what the question is about.
I went to check and if you use the UV Project Sop and try and place a texture with the vexlayered shop, you have to use the “Render Region” to see the texture. At least I do. So the interactivity is stymied because H9 doesn't seem to want to just display the texture as H8 did.

Anyway there is UV tutorial for H9 that might explain this.

The VEX shading modes have been removed. That being said, your textures should display in the viewport, provided that the surface SHOP specified them in the OGL tab (using parameters internally called ogl_tex1, ogl_tex2, etc). These parameters are commonly channel referencing parameters from the main interface folders. Many surface SHOPs do this by default, including VEX Layered Surface.
