Hardware for Houdini ?

Helloo Everyone … i need help here… i want to buy a custom machine for using Houdini ….

can any one tell which is the best hardware list for it …

this what so far i have come up with …


Daul xeon System

Processor
CPU XEON 2.50 QUAD CORE 1333MHZ/12MB (BX80574E5420A)

Server Board
SERVER BOARD S5000PSLSASR

8 GB Ram Corsair
CM75FB2048-667/SD FB DIMM 2 gb module

Not sure ofthe VGA card … i would prefer Quadro series of Nvidia

I would be greatFull…

What you described sounds pretty good, although I must admit I'm *way* out of touch with current motherboard brands and it's a critical component nowadays. As far as the Nvidia card, yup Quatro is the way to go but unless you have a really serious need it's rarely good economic sense to get the top card - try one generation older for a better bargain, they perform very well.

You'll love those 8 cores when it comes to render tests.

As for motherboard, I had good experiences with Supermicro [supermicro.com].
Their cases are also excellent. The one I have is a bit noisy, but more recently they seem to have introduced workstation oriented cases which are quiet.

I use an FX 5200 at home, handles 1 million+ polys easily. $25 or less on Ebay Of course a Quadro is good too
