Jagged Edges from Shatter

Whenever I use the shatter surface node on geometry in Houdini 9.5.235, more often than not, I end up with jagged edges coming out of the geometry. The chance of this happening seems to increase as I increase the number of cuts. I can get rid of these edges by telling the node not to create inside surfaces, but I don't want this, because it would look bad when the object breaks in my RBD simulation. Any solutions for getting rid of these weird edges?

Dude, tell me about it! I've had to use shatter in Maya to break my objects and then import them into Houdini.

Ben :)

Have you tried reversing the prims before the shatter with a reverse SOP?

Using Reverse only made it worse.

You could try and scale up your geometry 10x or 100x (using the Transform SOP), and perform the Shatter at that size? Sometimes smaller numbers get finicky.

Hi,

We are currently working on improving both the results and functionality of the Break/Shatter sops. If you have specific instances that the results are particularly poor, please feel free to send me an example and we can work to make sure the improved sops can handle these situations as best as possible.
