I understand that Houdini 10 is not officially supported on Win 7, nor is Win 7 officially released.
Just wondering if anyone has had success installing production release o the latest build of Houdini 10 on Windows 7.
I've switched to RC build on one machine and can no longer install H10.
Install fails during gfont.exe, no errors. When I kill gfont.exe process, install proceeds and then hangs again on hkey.exe. Killing that process again completes the install, however trying to run H10 results in… well.. nothing… no errors are thrown, program just doesn't load.

Luke

You might want to apply the information mentioned in this [sidefx.com] thread, it does sound like gfont is encountering a bad font, or worse, Win7 has changed something fundamental about font storage. Once done, you can also see if the OGL issue applies too.

Yup, I'm having the same problem. I've tried re-downloading, but to no avail. I think it may be the gfont stage of the install, too.
From this thread:

One possibility is that the installer encountered a bad truetype font.
Unfortunately, this happens from time to time due to the inherent nature of the
truetype font format. This installation step isn't necessary if you do not need
to use truetype fonts in Houdini and it can be rerun later if needed. So on
your system, first try to get Houdini installed without this step. Just kill
gfont.exe from the Task Manager.
Once Houdini is installed, we can debug the issue as follows:
1. Launch Command Line Tools from the Start Menu under
Side Effects Software > Houdini X.X.XXX.
2. Run this command: gfont -Sv This will generate verbose processing.
If the program stalls at any given point in time for longer than a minute, then
that is probably a bad font. If you send us that font file, then we can try to
fix gfont so that it can handle it.

installed in win7 with no problem.
but in win32 32bit version can install prman via proto_install, while in win7 the 64bit version has proto install not working…at least it can install but then do not load the d_houdini.dll.
is this becouse of 64 bit os?
mat
This depends on whether you have the 32-bit or 64-bit version of prman installed. If you have 32-bit prman, then you must install the ri_display driver from a 32-bit version of Houdini. If you have 64-bit prman, then you must install the ri_display driver from a 64-bit version of Houdini.
