Is there any complete tutorial: Houdini for VFX - Live Action and CG :? like this for Maya and Combustion: http://eat3d.com/livecg1 [eat3d.com]

How to: Houdini 3D models and incorporate them seamlessly into Live Action video with Lightning or HDRI and Rendering out the Different Passes and use Live Action tracking Data from SynthEyes, etc.

This Peter Quint's videos [vimeo.com] and many others Tutorials understands students of Theoretical computer science

I'am a Lightwave user and no Mathematics student or is Houdini only for this Group :?

I found nothing for this VFX workflow with Houdini.

thanks

Check out the latest CMI VFX video on HDRI lighting as it should cover most of what you are interested in (btw it's right on the front page of our web site at this time):

Most every tut on this site and most any other 3rd party site about using Houdini doesn't require programming. Maybe the odd expression. With many exercises a logical approach makes sense so yes you are having to flex the right side of the brain along with the left but that's generally a good thing imho.

Thanks 4 this hint, the HDRI and other 3Buzz DVDs looks very nice.

But I just smiling again by reading the content Index of this DVD

…This HDRI shader was used….in “Norton Commando Transformer” video….

And in the DVD trainingvideo they don't have any real footage to compare the results, they render a Teapot on a table :?

Okay, you don't need to post “hey, look at this cinema movie or this”…. I have read many stories and spend many time to Houdini last month and see that 95% of the trainings video on all websites i found ends pre-visualization or has only full CG.
It is unusual for me, because for ALL other 3D App like Maya, 3DMax, etc. you find Tonnes of payed or free Videos, Lessons for Matchmoving and workflow to Render different CG Passes into Live footage.

We are a non-profit Film Voluntary association -just Apprentice- and the question at the moment i have: what is possible with Houdini as “One Man show” for VFX?

The cinema movies produced by prof. studios has hundred of special CG-Artist for this stuff, but we won't make 90 Minutes VFX but some VFX Scene should - 100% realistic.

So one concrete Question for example: LTree

This is an example original shot:

and this the final shot:

Is Huodini's LTree+shading+mantra+composite able to create realistic Trees? I know the workflow in Lightwave or Modo + AfterEffects - you need 5-6 Hours for setup, and round about 25 minutes rendertime per frame and you learn this in one week.

Oh, i also found this very amazing video from one Apprentice Challenge 8)

If you have currently such good solution, so why you ask insistently about Houdini than?

- I don't see why learning material from other software about CG/life action integration doesn't apply to Houdini. It actually does a lot. These are techniques common to all tools. The only difference is that no one will do your job by making step by step process of creating specific effect.

- Software does only what human can do. VFX work is all about your talent, experience and knowledge, so question like if Houdini's LTree+shading+mantra+composite can make beauty images for you are pointless, for one they do, for others don't. For Pixar Renderman makes wonderful pictures, for you probably not (no offence).

See results of Houdini's usage by talented users:

and make your choice.
