volumes black hard shadows

Hi!

I'm trying to render a volume, but everytime I use mantra with spotlight and depthmap shadows, shadows on the ground are hard anfd black, no matters if the cloud has very big density or very low

What should I do to have soft, “gray” shadows on the ground?

Did you try using raytraced shadows?

hmm I got it, I think I have to reorganize and add some nodes to the shader, because I want to have stronger shadows inside my volume and lighter shadows on the ground.

Additional - could somebody explain me, why when I render volumes and use ambient light, then when using shadow map - volume has no shadows, and using raytrace - they do?
