I have the same problem, although I'm not able to flipbook anything. Nor am I able to export via file node or rop output driver Is there a limit in houdini apprentice that prevents any export of any kind?

Hi, another newbie here,
I have something similar but I'm trying to create three groups of poly's (surfaces) from the given mesh. I have created a note for the first two, but the third group is made of very small poly's which would be easier to select via the inverse of the first two groups combined. (if that makes sense).
I'm using houdini 14.0.291.
Any help is appreciated.

I just got it! In the combine tab for third group… group3 = ! group1 AND ! group2.

Hello,
I'm trying to create a procedural mantra shader for a pitcher. So, I'm trying to learn vex. I'm new to all this so excuse me if I use terms improperly.
Inside the Mantra Surface Node (vex level?), I've multiplied two noise patterns with the diffuse color to create the image at this link. (sorry tried to insert the image but that didn't seem to work)
My problem is I need to make the blue area specular (shinny). So, I think I need to somehow create a mask of the diffuse output, invert it then and feed it into a reflect map, but I have no idea how to do that. Any guidance or other idea on how to accomplish making the blue part shinny is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm trying to place geo objects on a surface either randomly or in groups which I can control.
I'm able to place the objects on a surface using the object_merge->scatter->point->copy nodes. The scatter is working nicely but everything is evenly spaced. Is there a way for me to control the scattering (or placement) of points (geo object) on the surface?

Published Sept 24, 2013 for Houdini 12.5 ” but the VOP SOP does not seem to work in H14 the way it does in H12.

Thank for the reply. Yes, I've tried launching both Houdini and Houdini FX. Any other ideas?
Update. Okay, call me crazy. As a sanity check, I just tried HoudiniFX again and I see the other shelves (Particles, RBD, etc.) in the New Shelf drop down menu. I do have a witness that it didn't work yesterday (not that that matters).
Particles appear to be working. RBD's not so much, but I'm sure it's operator error. Thanks again for your help.

Hello, I'm very new to Houdini. We're using a non-commercial license in school and I'd like to setup houdini on my Mac at home. Since we're using a non-commercial version at school I need to do the same at home for file compatibility.
I've installed the free houdini apprentice version that says it it includes particles and RBD's, (http//www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=245&Itemid=400) but when I run it (either apprentice or FX) I don't see the shelves for these tools. I've searched these forums for guidance with little success.
Sooo, can anyone help me learn how to install these shelves? They are not available in the new shelf drop down menu.
