In Houdini is there a parent operator? I am trying to think in terms of nodes, so I am wondering if Houdini handles parent/child relationship using nodes?
Like
Objects —— Parent Operator
A ———–> .parent
B, C, D, E -> .children
Thanks.

Thanks JR. I am glad it makes sense. I would imagine it would cause more overhead but seems like it would bring more power to the artist.

Thanks Robert. This is interesting. I am just trying to think in terms of pure node based system, wouldn't it help to have these as separate operators?
Thanks.
Thanks.

You are right. I just wanna try writing a few for practice. I use python in Maya for a long time so I thought maybe I could write ops in Houdini too.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi,
Generally modeling nodes for the start. Like all kinds of selection ops, loop/ring, and then spherify, relax, and lots more. How do I go about writing these?
Thanks.

Hi all,
It's me again.
While I was doing the spoon tutorial, I saw that he is selecting loops, etc. Is this an operator too? If not, why?
Thanks.

Hi everyone,
Anyone knows how to write new ops for Houdini? Is it possible with Python, or only C++?
Thanks.

I can't find the vid, but is it like stretch modifier in Max or maybe a custom verlet cloth deformer on a skin node?
Cheers.
Cheers.

Thanks guys for replying. This is awesome. Fabian hit the nail on the head. I have been suggested Fabian's method but if I am not wrong, that means the complete duplicate of the mesh so paying double the price for one? I generally want to do things as efficient as possible (both on the technical and art side)
That being said I will try Robert's tutorial for sure.
Thanks guys.

Hi all,
This is my first post. All I wanna say is I really love this app, I use Max, Maya on a daily basis at work but Houdini is simply the most powerful and intuitive, unlike what others claim.
I have lots of questions about it, hope you guys can help me out.
So I am wondering if there is a notion of top/pinned nodes in Houdini.
As an example say, that I have these nodes:
a -> b -> c -> d -> subdivide
So later on I add a new operation (through the UI), so it's not like I am adding the node directly but houdini does it for me if that makes sense.
In that case the new operation is added after the subdivide node. But I want the subdivide node to always be the last so the result would have this subdivision surface result for instance.
Does it make sense?
Thanks.
