is there any ways that I can take a scene from 3Ds Max and bring it into houdini? it would really help me out because now I need to create some explosions and it'd really be a lot easier to do in houdini than in max. thanks!

So I'm trying to get all the effects together for this web series I'm going to try and film in the next few months and I've already run into a problem. Most of the effects will be done in After Effects, but there are a few 3d elements that I'm going to need. The first is a model of the Planet Earth seen from space.
I know the very basics of Houdini, the panes, most of the tools, and how to do basic animation. But I could really use some help on this if anyone could give me a hand. I loved that Earth I saw that Miguel (blank) did. So if someone could point me there because I thought he had some tutorials on how to do that I would really appreciate it if it exists. if not please please help because all of my funds will be going towards costumes and props so I won't be able to get a special effects guy to help me out so it's all resting on me. Thanks

So I've been trying to create a road impact for several hours now and I've come very very close to what I want, but ultimately it always ends in frustration.
I'm trying to create a small impact crater in a square that's been stretched out to be very thin. Basically I've been fracturing it and then smashing it in the center with a tube. The square fractures (I either shatter or break it before making it a RBD) but you can't really tell that's its caved in.
What I want is a small shallow area that caves in slightly on impact. I want there to be a lot of small pieces that fracture then cave in but I can never get it right. I have been having problems with break and shatter because I can never get it to split the square up into small enough pieces. So this is either a problem with that, or the impact.
I place the square on top of a caved in static square (done with a metaball) so that when the fractured square is struck it will only cave in the center.
That's what I've been doing but it never comes out right. Please help.
btw: the effect is for something heavy or forceful hitting the ground. thanks
