Hi guys, after installing h11 apprentice as root on debian 6, when i login in to the system as “myusername” i can't start houdini until i start sesinetd as root….so each time i've to open a terminal as root and print ‘/etc/init.d/sesinetd start’ . How can i start this license server automatically as simple user ? thanks.

hi uniqueloginname, your spray looks nice….maybe you can add some noise to improve it or just simulate you are using it in an outside environment with wind forces acting on it….then i was thinking to fake a standing indoor spray with a volumetric object, so i've posted here a start basic scene only to stimulate alternative ways to obtain a similar result.
It needs noise inside the procedural shader and more offset opacity to shape it better…and more…

Oh DaJuice…..thanks a lot! That was so easy, but when i was unchecking that my display was set to smooth shading…and it looks like triangulating my mesh….then in wireframe all went fine ops:

Yes ….now i see….i was scattering points over meshes, and then i was creating a point attribute add normal, and this make me crazy for a while now , as i was look at my viewport and the mesh display no point normals….that's a simple matter to solve, just create the point attribute add normal after the polygon mesh and BEFORE the scatter node. This makes me suffer as i was picking as a source for my particles pop the scatter node above….and my instances were oriented not correctly as the normals….f…

try using an image sequence…jpg, png, tif or better rat, rat is the houdini file format, you can convert to this file format using mplay or a shell.

hi, why dont'you save your particles to disk and load them in a delayed load shader, this can help you in render more than 1 million particles, use point rendering (mantra) and a constant shader with low opacity to avoid the white eliptical effect….maybe you can use a ramp to have more opacity in your birth emission point ($age or $life ??)…the blocky shadow seems a low sampling issue, maybe an area light can help producing softer shadows, or a blur in a separate pass in comp.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » normal map or displacement map from paint appz ?

Hi all, i'm just imported an obj from 3d-coat to houdini, then in a mantraSurface shader i've applied a color map and a displacement map and everithing was fine, all the maps were exported from the 3dcoat app, also a normal map that if assigned in the bump section of the shader with map type set to Normal it gives a flat result on the mesh. I was thinking that from H11 with the mantrasurface shader you can use normal maps without build your own shader. How can i use normal maps in houdini, just like the blender normal tangent way? thanks.

yes, the torus is receiving the colour of the changing light (Obj1), that's all…
to modify the colour there are keyframes, scope the channels and turn it as you like.

so…I feel a little embarrassed to post this 2 basic geolight changing color files here…..'cause i'm new to geolight and houdini, so i suppose there are better way to turn a light color, but that's my way to get a result in a fast logic manner

So blink between 2 colors…just animate light color parameter but from yellow to blue raise some green…copy the same light 2times one yellow one blue then drive the intensity to fade from one to one….and to adjust the speed of changing light you have to handle the wave curve in your chop….or set some keyframes in a loop (example: intensity 0 > 1 > 0) then set an infinity cycle on your channel curve…

…and the rdg post has a link to vmuriel artist site, that let users mail to him, so you could write to ask something more about that nice animation.

hi , maybe you're more likely to get a fish rather than learning to fish, i mean try to dig a bit in the nodes, not only the mine also the houdini examples files that are a great way to learn more…so the null it's simple a locator that contain the translation keys of the animation so if you start with a new fluid sim just parent to him withouth re-keyframe the animation…and the 2 states blob i tell you in the previous post, are 2 different way to go , one with particles the other with fluid.

that's only a basic start to see how to fill an object with fluids or particles, you have both examples.

Hi, i've multiply a bit your math in the chop, ‘cause you have a big scaled object in your scene, to let the normalized area light turn on bright….dont know your set up, i’ve deleted your geolight and recreated a new one.
