Hey all, I'm needing a computer for heavy 3d (houdini, maya, mari) and 2d (nuke) work I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for specs and graphics. budget is about 10k give or take.
Ive used mac pros before but now leaning towards a windows based system.
advice is appreciated

Thanks for the reply Joker,
In H12 i used once a locator and a curlnoise within the popsolver to create some interesting looks, do you know how i could do that in H13 without an empty popsolver? I was thinking i might be able to merge it over but no luck so far.

Hey all,
Im just wondering how you can get an empty pop solver in Houdini 13? Im not finding the one Im familiar with that was in Houdini 12, any suggestions?

Hello all,
Im new to Houdini and I am running into some doing a small collision using BULLET within RDB Objects.
I have 2 cars both have animation on them. I made them both rigid body. I want to use my obj animation then at frame 16 switch into Rigid body for a collision. Im using a RDBkeyactive on both cars, copying over obj path info and using a variable to connect with the frame I want to switch over with (CRASH or CRASHCOW (Fr15) I created a second one just testing, no luck though…. I hope that makes sense :?
After all that the cars do not move at all, is there something Im doing wrong or missing?
I have added my script and obj's, I'm using latest build of houdini apprentice. (obj are on a dropbox here)

If I can trouble someone to have a look into my script and see whats happening that would be greatly appreciated. Or even suggest possibly another way to achieve a simple car collision?

This is really weird! renders a shadow but no shadow in the viewport… but same files works for you, very interesting…
Could there possibly a performance issue? any known issues with nvidia?

Thanks adding that to the shadow mask now lets it render within mantra, but still no shadow in the viewer but its not a huge issue at the moment since its I'm just learning still but would be nice to figure it out if i buy a license in the future.

Hey all,
New to Houdini coming from maya.
Doing some tutorials and its making sense for the most part however for some reason Im not able to see my shadows in my render or viewport, yet from what I understand they should be there… shadows are turned on, high quality, set to ray-traced (tried the others without luck) and still no shadows, however seems to cast self shadows on the object just not the ground plane. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
I have attached the file thats having issues
