Hi!
This Vector Displacement worked in houdini 10 but it dosen't work in 11. It seams that the problem is in inline code. I'm using text: vop_computeTangents($tanU, $tanV, normalize(N), $uv, 2);
Maybe someone knows how to fix this error. Thanks.

I found the reason why 3d-coat PTex dosen't work in houdini. It´s because .obj format. Right now 3d-coat writes it as:
f v1/vt1/vn1 v2/vt2/vn2 v3/vt3/vn3 … (which is correct way but houdini has some problems to understand it when used with Ptex)
if I change it into this:
f v1//vn1 v2//vn2 v3//vn3 … (samples from ptex.us use this way)
It works and I get beatiful Ptextures. It seams that it's more houdini issue than 3d-coat. Hope we can find a solution.
It's not so hard to write a script to change the .obj file but it should not have this kind of issue in the first place. Thanks.

Does anybody else has problem to bring ptex files from 3d-coat into houdini.
When I try to bring them they are blurred and incorrect.

Here is updated version about vector displacement vector. It's working with 3d-coat and it takes both positive and negative vectors account. If anyone wants to test this there is a file for you. niko3d if you have to check this that would be helpful too. I added Fit range just after the texture node. I don't know why I have to do that because I thought that exr files can be negative too.

Ok. I solved the problem. I watched a tutorial where they use red color to create particles from surface and that works perfectly in my example too.

Here is a quick one. I created particle system into my object. Then I created VOP POP node and inside of that I created constant( value=0) and linked into life parameter. So the life of the particle is zero. But I can still see my particles and they life 2 frames until they die. Is there a way that I can kill my particles before the born?

I still have that bug. Thanks for all the help and feedback. But it is still there. I hope that somebody can fix this. It's not so bad because I can use the program but it is a little bit frustrating.

I have a similar problem. With my ubuntu 9.04 when I open houdini the program dosen't respond at all. Window will show up on the screen but I can't click anything. Funny thing in this is when I open second houdini (“not closing the first houdini”) it works perfectly. I did installing using this method.
My specs are:
Quad 6600
Nvidia 8800 GS

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Round tool in NURBS

Thanks for help. Here is a picture what I'm trying to model. I'm modelling the brakes of motorcycle and I was thinking that NURBs would be the best way to go.

I have one small problem. This is what I have done so far.
1. Created Grid and Cylinder (Both are NURBS)
2. Use Surfsect tool to make nice cylinder shape hole.
3. Next step is to use Round tool to make nice round surface on the edge.
But when I do this I can't see any diffrence. When I change radius option in round tool I can see it but it dosen't trim grid edges away automaticly. I have tried to use trim option but I don't know the right order of node tree. Here is a pic.

Thanks silvina. That was one part of solution. I have been working with psyborgue who is a user of 3d-coat forum. And he was able to fix this material and now it working corretly. Everybody who wants this material can download it from:

Here is a node tree. I added Normal map. My only consern is that did I add Normal maps normals right way or not. In this node I'm just adding the Displacement normal and Normal map texture normal together. If there is any better way do it If anybody can help.
I know that I'm doing something wrong because I get these black lines in my render.

Now it is working. If someone likes to try I can put it here on the forum. Now houdini works perfectly with this program.

Thanks so much for that information. Here is a update. Good thing that you can see displace. And also good thing is that it's not only up and down but every direction. Bad thing is
that it dosen't look any how it should look like. Here is a picture
I'm not sure what P and nN means in displace node. I tried to understand that
P would be surface postition and nN would be the vector which direction I want to take my P position but it dosen't seem to work like that.

Is there Vector Displacement material somewhere. I have been trying to look for it but I can't find it anywhere. Simple Displace material seems to be only basic displace options. And if there is nothing. Is it possible. to build one. I'm not a programmer at all but I like to do something sometimes. It would nice to know if that's possible. Maybe give a direction where to go.
By the way. This program is amazing. I just spended 99 dollars for HD version. I really like this program so far.
