Effectively i think the issue comes from a collision probleme, but when i play with the collision setting to get a more accurate collison, i get the same result.
Do you know if extrude the glass should make a collision more accurate ?
thx for your reply

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Stripes issue on the smoke's surface during collision

Hi everybody, hope all of you have a great week end,
I try to make a simulation of a glass jar with smoke inside, but i got 2 issues during the simulation:
-The first issue is about some stripes which appear vertically on the smoke's surface when smoke collides with the glass jar. It seems these stripes comes from the primitives of the jar… So how could i manage to remove this stripes and get a surface clean and smoother ?
-The second issue is about the “Resize Container”, during the simulation the resize container works well, it rising correctly, but at a certain time the resize container starts to be crop (cut off) from the bottom. So the container rising but in the same time it is cut off from the bottom
I put my scene here and some picture. if someone know a way to help me, it would be awesome, because i'm stuck and i didn't find any solution.
Oh just a last point, i'm a beginner in houdini and i don't have a lot of experience so if you have something to say about my scene (organisation, optimization), please just tell me. Tell me if something is not acceptable or if something should be better in an another way. I really want to progress.
Thank in advance for your help and your time.

Hi verysame, thanks again for your help and your time.
You got a really good idea to start with a glass shader, i did like you and now it works, i think i made a mistake on my mantra surface.
After tweaking the glass shader it's all good, so thx a lot for your help

Ok thx a lot for your time. Yeah it's relally strange, maybe i have a mistake in my shader (mantra surface). Why it would work in your scene and not in mine ? What kind of shader did you use for your quick test from today ?
If you can post your test scene, I would be grateful to you.
Thx again

Hey, thx for your reply, when i add an env. light it does exactly the same probleme. With every kind of light I got the same probleme, i think the issue is about shadow and the materiel refraction….Because it seems when the shadows is active, the refraction became passive.

Hi everybody, hope all of you have a nice week,
Unfortunately, i got a problem with a mantra surface rendering. I've started to create a mantra surface for water (so mainly created with reflection and refraction). When i render the flip fluid with the mentra surface, I get a transparency and clear surface (more or less). But when i add a light (distant light) in my scene, i got a black and thick shader (see the picture bellow), it looks like there is no more refraction.
When i try to change the values of the refraction there is nothing happens…The refraction doesn't works anymore when the light is active.
I also discovered when i turn of the shadows in the light settings, the mantrasurface comes back well (is it the way to go ? :? )
So the probleme looks come from shadow and refraction, no ?
So if there is someone here who knows how could i manage to have correctly my shader and the same time have a light in my scene, because at this time i'm not able to have my shader with shadow and light.
I put some pictures and my scene bellow
Thanks in advance, Cordially

Nice, i was looking for this kind of effect.
So it looks be easier to create the simualtion before and then create the slowotion than create the slowmotion directly in the simulation…. I was not sure, but it sounds logic, like that, you don't need to play around with a lot of parameters
Thx for the advice,

Ok, thank a lot edward, your replies helped me so much.
But i got another problem, I put down a fetch CHOP and i pointed it on my camera. Then I right clic on the node to “save data channel”, i choose the directory of the outfile and the name. When i choose the name i change the extension in .chan (before it was “.bclipnc”). But then, when i clic on save, it says me that is not possible because the file type is invalid…. So i don't know how can i export the chanel in the “.chan”, maybe i need to change the extension of the file after saving the file in “.bclipnc” ?
Sorry for my unknowledge … but i'm a beginner and i'm easily lost :?
Thx again for your help

Thx edward for your reply,i have already watched this subject and the video, but i'm maybe to stupid to understand it Because i don't know, what refer the file that you read in the “CHOP”, it's a file in “.BCLIPNC”, but actually what is it ?
sorry to ask you that, but do you think you can just explain me the method of this exportation via the CHOP ?
Thx in advance, cordially,

Hi everybody !
I'm new on houdini and i'm just trying to export my camera data in“.chan” to import it in Vue. Unfortunately, i don't know why, export and import the camera data in FBX doesn't work, there is nothing happens when i import it in Vue … However the import works perfectly in maya…
I can also import the camera data in Vue via a “.chan” file, so i'm looking to export simply my camera data in“.chan”. I looked on internet and on the Forum but i didn't find … so, yeah if somebody know the way to export the camera data in“.chan” it would be fantastic
Thank in advance, cordially

Thx for your answer, now i will work a lot and really hard to develop my skills and the softwares's mastering. I would like to go further in the fx, but i also need to have more general knowledge before, so I will try to develop my general knowledge while I learn the fx's technic. And I really want to go deeper with houdini which looks perfect for the fx.
thx again, see you

Hi GrayOlorin, I'm a student in a public school in the Audiovisual, specialized in the “montage and post production”, is not specialized in the vfx so i'm learning by myself ( i spend a lot of my free time on my computer, switching between tutorials and the software for personal project). But after my diploma i would like to start in a school specialized in the VFX.
About that, do you know if it's an obligation to doing a specialized school to enter in the professional world or you can find a job, even if you didn't attend to a VFX specialized school ? I mean, can you succeed in your career if you learnt by an autodidact way ?
Thx for your reply

Hi everybody, i'm not sure if i allowed to create a topic to present me, and if i'm in the good place to do that, so sorry if i'm wrong.
Just to present me: I'm french student and i got the “Non Comercial” version of Houdini (Thx to Sidefx to create this kind of version for the students and for learning this software).
I've started to learn Houdini with tutorials and I completely fell in love of Houdini ^^ There is so much possibility and the nodal's power is just incredible ! It's a real pleasure to play with this Software.
I want to learn more and more about this software, so i thinks i will use and look into this forum a lot
So see you later on the forum and thanks again to sidefx to created a “Non Comercial” version which is complete.
PS: Sorry if my english is not perfect
