that sounds great thanks Mike for all the work you guys have put in, Houdini runs great on OS X aside from the OpenGL issues which are really bad and make it almost unusable and so once those issues are solved it would really help things out. Thanks
Technical Discussion » FBX exprt skinned character Maya to houdini issues OS X

Hi guys I am not sure if this is a known issue, but I am having some trouble when I export a skinned and animated character from maya to houdini using FBX in OS X. I followed directions of caching out geometry and then exporting it into houdini using the latest FBX out of maya. I tried the same exact method and it worked fine one a windows machine, but when I tried importing the same file into houdini OS X the object shows up but it does not deform. Regular animations to the transform node come through fine.
But if I skin the character and animate the joints cache out the info, duplicate my character apply the geo cache to it, create the quick set and then FBX export it with geo caching turned on, bring it into houdini using fbx import and check the unlock deformations and geo cache. It does not bring in any of the deformations in houdini on OS X it works fine when I do it in windows.
Does anyone know if this is an issue only on my machine or in general please thanks.

I am trying to get houdini 9 apprentice to run on fedora 8 and am running into several issues. I installed the latest build 9.1.116 from the daily builds, installed the latest Nvidia drivers. I have the mac pro 8cor with the nvidia geforce 7600gt card. I installed houdini as per the instructions. sourced the houdini_setup file it said the env was initialised. checked if sesintd was running and it showed me two sesintd processes.
Then I typed in hkey from the /opt/hfs9.1.116 folder and it told me there was a there was an error and i should check the error log. On doing which my error log read:
Crash report from neomatrix25; Unknown App Version 9.1.116

RE_OGLRender::RE_OGLRender(int, char const*) (??:0)
RE_Render::RE_Render(int, char const*) (??:0)

I am kinda new to linux and I am trying to figure out where I am going wrong. It gives me the same error when I try to run houdini too.
Does someone know a fix please?
thanks

thanks joe I will look forward to downloading the new build tomorrow.
As for the fact that houdini should start anyway, the startup window with the girl on it starts up then it says connecting to the server and then nothing happens and then i get the libz error msgs and then nothing happens no houdini startup or anything

Hi guys, I just installed the H9 apprentice version on Fedora core 8, I changed my directory to the opt directory sourced houdini setup then typed in houdini. The houdini startup window with the girl on it starts up then on my command line I get the error “unable to link glcolortableSGI” twice and then nothing happens and houdini doesnt start up. Would anyone be able to help with this problem please.
I am on a mac pro 8 core with an nvidia geforce 7300GT running Fedora 8 64bit, trying to run the latest build of the H9 apprentice.
thanks

Hi guys I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem and knows a solution. I am running H9 on WinXp through boot camp on my mac pro. I have an NVIDIA 7300GT video card. I just set up a simple scene with particles being emitted from a location, then tried to render them as spheres and put motion blur in the mantra node. But no luck they just render as spheres no motion blur. I tried to append a point sop and add velocity to it too. Still no luck. I even tried to copy sop a sphere onto the particles and render that and yet no motion blur. I just moved a sphere by itself in the scene without particles and i got motion blur on that.
Is there something I am missing, are other mac users through bootcamp having the same issue?
Is H9 having issues with my graphics card?
thanks

Hi guys, linux newbie here, dont know if this problem has been addressed but I couldnt find much info on it. I am running Fedora 7 64bit on my mac pro. I installed H9.0.677 apprentice version. Startup houdini as per instructions. Asked the license admin to install apprentice key. hkey started up too, then it asks me run or view licenses when i ask it to run the window closes and nothing happens. When i go back to the csh and type in hescape or houdini each time it keeps bringing up the license administrator window the same kind that popped up the first time askin if i wanted to install and apprentice license or change the existing license or had my own license. I typed in hkey and it shows the apprentice licenses for rendering master and escape. Says the server is running and licenses are available. I cant figure out why houdini wont run then ? could someone please help me out.
thanks
thanks
