Technical Discussion » How much does VRAY for Houdini suck?

haha dude! I had to reply to this. YES! I have been trying to give Vray 6 a chance for a month with my 30 day trial. It is THE worst renderer I have ever attempted to use. The new "ocean" integration sucks. Normal map and bump map workflow is ???? You can't rotate the dome light around in the y, but x and z will flip it all over the place. I wasn't even allowed to post on the forums for help even though I was logged in and registered, probably because I was on a trial and didn't pay, I'm glad I didn't pay for that garbage. I agree with you 100%. If I have to search google and forums to figure out why my normal map looks funky and why I cant rotate an env light you lose my interest. It had a lot of cool looking features like the proc clouds and stuff but I'm done with it!

I think the instancer automatically switches the view mode to "proxy". On the viewport sidebar, there's the glasses icon, make sure "render" is checked, not "proxy". Maybe this is it?
Technical Discussion » Drag and drop incredibly slow. Parameter links and LOP's

Hi all!
When I drag parameters to do relative references or drag out assets in LOP's to do layouts, there is an incredibly slow lag from the cursor to whats happening on screen. I'm not sure if it's an openGL thing. I think it's Linux specific because I have a dual boot machine and it doesn't happen in Windows but I don't want to work in Windows . I attached a video below.
Cheers!
Operating System: Kubuntu 22.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.6
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3

Graphics Platform: X11

Houdini Lounge » Material ID map for Substance/Mixer/Texturing

Aha, so I got it working. Well kinda a bonehead fix. What the problem was in the Labs Maps Baker node, the "Material ID seed" was set to 46, and unless I zoomed in to the map, I could not tell that it randomly picked 2 red colors that were very close, almost indistinguishable from one another. I just changed the seed and it wrote out 2 different colors for the materialid. I also got rid of the seam with a Labs Soften Normals node, set the soft angle to 0, checked on Harden UV seams and set the Hard angle to 180 and it seemed to do the trick!

Houdini Lounge » Material ID map for Substance/Mixer/Texturing

Hi all. I'm banging my head against the wall trying to output a clean "materialid" map for texturing. I tried the labs simple baker and the labs map baker. They don't work for me, I'm doing something wrong. Rather than explain all the mistakes I made can someone help me with the proper workflow? I found a way to get out a materialid pass by renaming the base color map to "materialid" but in Quixel Mixer there are 3 colors and I have a weird gap in between the material ids that just isn't going to work. I should just have 2 ids, not 3. I can't get a clean separation. I'm coloring the prims in Houdini. Thanks for the help!

Hi all. I downloaded the Eric rig KineFX jumping rope and vellum antennae scenes. I downloaded the animations and t-pose from Mixamo and loaded them into the fbx animation nodes as instructed, but nothing happens. He just stands there in a T-pose the whole while the rope spins around him. Any ideas? Houdini 18.5.351 Windows. Thanks!

hi guys.
im new to houdini and am going through the quickstart tut.
after I make my RBD columns breakable with “make breakable”
the columns bases explode a few frames into the simulation.
In the video tutorial the teachers columns stay together until they are struck with the sphere.
heres a screenshot
