Just wanted to say CapturePackedGeo method works beautifully. Thank you. I will watch the masterclasses thoroughly. This is exciting stuff. Thanks again.

Blimey! Copy to points should be the first thing to come to mind. Not in a SOPs state of mind yet I guess. Thank you very much for the effort.

Hello. I am playing around with KineFX and trying to create a rig from scratch. I am stuck at trying to parent non-deforming parts of the geometry (gums and teeth) to their bones. I suppose I have to parent them to the bone's point but I really can't figure out how to do it. I tried to use VOPs but using the KineFX parenting nodes gave me funky results (mainly flipped rotations). If someone could point me to a direction here, I would greatly appreciate it.
Secondary question. The only way I have found to name the bones is to create the skeleton, delete the name attribute and then use a rig doctor node to give them a meaningful prefix. Is there a simpler way to do it that I have missed?
(Also a million more KineFX questions but never mind)
Thank you in advance.

Same here. Not working with any of the paint tools.
UPDATE: Pressure works fine with Windows ink set to ON. Always 1 when set to off.

Yes. That was it. Everything seems to be working as expected using the production build. Seems like the latest Windows daily build has some weird bugs.

I am using Renderman 23.1 with the latest daily build of Houdini 18. I will test it with the latest production build in case it is a bug. I also get weird warnings when creating a light in LOPs and also there is no pxr material builder node. The rest is there but that one node is missing.

Hello. I am trying to use Pixar's Renderman (23.1) with Houdini 18 indie and when I try to render I get the following error.
Traceback (most recent call last):

return _hou.RopNode_render(*args, **kwargs)
OperationFailed: The attempted operation failed.
Error: Indie does not support generating disk files.
No command specified for rendering
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening (just in case it has something to do with Houdini)? Thank you in advance.

Technical Discussion » RBD float in flip

Hello. I've been trying to create a scene where some meatballs float inside a soup. Looking around I saw some examples where raising the feedback scale on the flip solver makes the fluid and the rbd interact naturally, BUT. The results I get are weird at least. Raising the feedback scale appears to create some kind of force on the fluid surface but after a while the rbds drop to the bottom where they seem to be moved around by the fluid but their weight is unaffected -as displayed in the extreme example I upload-. I am obviously missing something but cannot figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. Trying to test the muscle system,on a rig I made, when adding a stroke muscle, I get the weirdness in the op. (the stroke works ok, but the muscle's ends point towards the scene origin. I cannot figure out why this is happening. I tried it on a simple scene and it works fine. It also works ok on Houdini's autorig. Any help would be appreciated.

The no rulers solution fixes the viewport problem but not the geometry problem. I find it impossible to select points on my 17 inch late 11 MacBook Pro which makes Houdini unusable. I am also unable to apply the official apple solution which is to buy the latest model. SideFX informed me that it's a problem with the apple drivers. Not really hopeful that we will get a fix, still one can dream.

Thanks for the tips. I have installed the latest driver. @twod: Your suggestion worked. The scene did open. Wasn't getting any useful results with the viewport displacement anyway. It is weird though. I mean the system should be able to handle this. Shouldn't it?

Hello everyone. I have been experiencing an issue with this scene I am working on. I made this character. He's got some 4K textures and vector displacement maps. The issue is that after I set up the scene (especially when switching back to the viewport tab) the viewport freezes and the Radeon driver crashes. After that I cannot open the scene (every time the same GPU driver crash). I use the classic shader. the rig is an HP Z620 with an 8 GB, Radeon R9 390. Has anyone had the same experience? Any tips? Thanks in advance.

I too get constant crashes with bones and Nvidia web driver with my GTX 680 but so far it looks stable when using the default driver (the problem is that openCL crashes with the default but not with the web driver so it's back and forth until they fix it).

Actually the shader view just doesn't work. It can even make houdini freeze. I am sure that the issue will be resolved in future builds as a shader view is always useful.

Hello. Thank you for your reply. As you said the installer does locate my version of Houdini but installs everything EXCEPT the DSO's which after looking all around my hard drive are nowhere to be found. I will try to follow your instructions (even though I really have no idea how…). Thanks again.
Manos
EDIT ok. this is crazy. I could not do a symlink as I have no idea about this UNIX technical stuff (I know.. I should..) but I tried opening the dylibs (one at a time) with textEdit and changed the path in there to .595 and it seems to be working… the plugins have loaded..

*&^*&^%*(W*&$%
nope.. that didn't solve it. I suspect it has sth to do with HDK (which doesn't seem to work since it fails to compile the star_SOP) but I have to admit I am totally lost.
Thank you very much..
