oh oh … yeah.. it was the old release still installed… thanks a lot guys.
that said… is there an automatic way to reinstall proto_stuffs when upgrading houdini?… i can make a script for that easly…. but isnt there a way houdini just rewrite/reinstall (maybe and installer option?) the proto_stuff? maybe that's a RFE… but I find such RFE makes sense overall.. dont you?
cheers and thanks again.

ok … seams that it have some issues anyway …
I cant remember the thread were a user here posted few screeshots about the Houdini GUI having drawings artifacts (huge windows borders… icons and buttons and text bad drawn… well this happens here randomly but quite often. I was now playing with VEX shaders… using a “render region” in the OBJ viewport..and playing with VOP nodes… but when i drawn a new render region… the GUI got “transformed”… I'll post a screenshot maybe later…
cheers

strange… I guess something was wrong somehow… now it works.. maybe it was the VEX code I was trying… cant understand why …
forget this.. or.. I can debug further maybe ther's really something broken somewhere….
I'll keep updated.
cheers.

I'm not using that feature too much .. i prefer the mantra preview in mplay … but trying to preview some fog shader in viewport… I found this in my console…
FATAL: fglX11CMMFreeSurface: firegl_FreeBuffer() failed!
preview in mplay works fine… any idea?

HI,
after being at the Roadshow I wanted to see what the FlowField SOP was ment to be … (C.o.r.e. guys talked about it if I'm not wrong)… but unlucky I simply cant add it to my SOP network… once i TAB->flowfiel-> enter (to put it on my net) Houdini just crashes…
here's the output of my /tmp crash log:

oh.. i didnt got it was a help request btw … there were no question marks… anyway … I must add that my FC5 installations comes with SELinux disabled during setup … cause I read ATI drivers also got stucked/problematic during installation if SELinux is enabled… so It might be that my setup works out of the box… just cause SELinux is off… dunno.
cheers

HI there,
what I'm trying to make is a camera rig in Houdini to reflect a camera rig done in XSI, import animations and have it as a HDA with needed handles/parameters.
sadly I've got the following problems:
1) chcp/chls doesnt list/copy subnets/HDA parameters…
2) “disable when” parameters works, but as I'll explaing below doesnt fit my needs and I need your help.
1) I'm trying to copy/paste some animation from a Collada import Camera Rig which let me have animations in Houdini but the Rig is totally messed cause in XSI ther's few constrain/expressions which doenst fit in the Houdini “architecture”, I dont mind on it.. I made a new houdini camera Rig but what I need now is to copy animation from “collada subnet” channels into my HDA channels (which are actually parameters I created for my HDA)… problem is that neighter from the collada subnet or from the HDA i get output from a “chls” or “chcp” .. which makes a script undable.
2) I wanted to have to chance to choose to use a camera interest (typical XSI setup) or not (houdini setup) .. using “lookat” parameter. My HDA have a toggle which lemme choose a “on/off” way .. then a lookat parameter to choose the “tobe looked” object in case I want to have a camera interest…
the parameter field gets disabled accordingly to the toggle.. but not the real output of that parameter, since the camera always looks at the interest… so I need help on setting this, I guess should be simple….. but apparently I cant get it, even after couple of coffes
cheers and thanks for your help.

In my personal opinion, as a intensive apprentice user since some time now, I can say that “no you dont need such knowledge”.. but I'd add.. you'll look for it anyway cause Houdini its really fun to use as is… but gives you LOAD of more fun if you go deeper in both VOP or shader development…

How hot does the machine get?
not enought to justify the hang… also .. I'm not only using Houdini on this machine.. but a lot XSI for the project I'm working on …. and a bit of Maya.. and the only app that make the machine to hang .. is Houdini … also … this never happened on the t43p (single core)… even if the temp was a bit higher (maybe this t60p have better heatsink also) …..I seriously doubt that's a cpu temperature problem.

maybe ImportAttribute VOP is what u're looking for.. there you can specify the attribute to read.. and the input index from.

true .. tha'ts quite the speed I'm having… well.. i'm moving around 3 units (I also consider 1 unit as 1 meter in Houdini) in around 5 frames…
I'll post a scene later in few minutes… but yeah that's almost the result you wrote… with the differnce that the object starts still.. then moves.. then stops… so the “speed=0” expression wouldnt work maybe…
right now I'm actualy using the lenght() expression.. and I'm having almost the result I need exepct I loose particles from the surface cause of collision lost..
scene to come soon…
cheers

maybe you're referring to the ‘rm’ files from those old video tutorials? which in that case are RealPlayer media files.. shouldnt be a problem to play ‘em with RealPlay.. and if i’m not wrong there's a Divx version too for those…

maybe “$FF > 5 && $FF < 10” in the impulse rate field (without quotes) would give you the result? (and dont forget to put “0” in the constant activation"
'5' and ‘10’ are for the frame range…. use your own desired values.
hope this helps.
