yeppp !
i just saw it and was just opening a new thread ( more exactly at apprentice section ) when i noticed it here .
looking really good !
of course is great to have some tools and utilities already made but personally i'd love to use this website as a good learning source and mostly a real time reference for my everyday work ( even for simple things e.g. an simple expression ). finding ‘support’ so quickly wd greatly affect my and many others' productivity and knowledge .
i hope many houdini users start to contribute to this new website …
Keep it Up Guys !! very promising !
p.s. : bookmarked . this wll be the first website i'll visit every morning

nice ‘n’ clean !
… but glass without reflections is just … smoke .
i wd suggest to use some geometry ( few white mate polygons ) visible by rays , but not from camera . tweaking the geometry gives a lot more ‘space to interpret’ reflections . you can avoid the ‘blurry reflection’ problem which some low resolution environment images may manifest .
add some specular highlights from your point light and it should be fine .
you may , also , use dedicated additional lights just for that purpose .
.cheers

Hi everyone ,
i'm having a ‘strange’ appearance ( rendering ) of my model . first pic …
it might look ‘interesting’ but it is not what i intended … . i'm referring to the tri-quatro-penta angular strange patterns . the surface should appear a smooth shaded one with some specularity and reflections on top of it .
my model is an exported one after i sculpted it in Sculptris , so it is an Obj with lots of ( and exclusively ) triangles . the other screenshots are taken from a ‘bite’ of the model extracted simply with a delete sop .
primitive's normals … appear ok . also rendering with and Reflect Lights and Reflect Objects Off … appear ok . the undesired effect appears only when i activate Reflect Lights and / Reflect Objects in the materials panel . ( i'm using a StainlessSteel as material and the default Mantra renderer options )
> any suggestion how can i resolve this ?
.thanks

Hi
Is this working in H11? It crashes on me.I really want to see this one working
I have made a pseudo one with copy SOP and metaballs(based on the sequence). I would love to figure it out with Volume SOPs
thanks
yes it's working here at my workstation and even opened it in my hp-tx2 laptop last night . ( at the beginning , it keeps cooking the vop vex , but doesn't crash … )
thanQ for sharing it dulo !

…
I think one reason for this is that Houdini is such a massive application. Still it would be really something if there was a comprehensive and structured training resource that was made available for H; …
…
quoted for agreement .
a compact and well structured not only of commercial training ones , but of Hou-Knowledge in general , would be great for most of Hou-Users in most of the cases . the first thing that comes in my mind are the huge ( but disperse ) amount of solutions / advices found in two main Hou-forums . slightly out of topic … but not much
i own almost all the set of CMI videos about Hou . i like them but they are like knowing about a planet's life while you are standing always over its clouds .
Hou is unique ; huge'n'deep . so its Knowledge should ( maybe ) be organized and ‘served’ in a non-conventional way . and possibly linked / accessed from within the App itself , IMHO . this may require some time , but would support Users and Hou itself tremendously .

yes….if they want the Houdini community to grow and the software to become popular they must promote it…I think SESI is doing very …
agreed totally and cut it for brevity …
i too come from another 3Dpackage and my serious intention is to definitively -switch to Houdini- . the changes of H11 are a good sign for me personally and i see them like SESI too is trying to come closer to me .
this trend should be reflected and supported with tutorials of any topic .
imo , SESI-s focus / moto should be “ the alternative way of Houdini ” to do something .
due to Hs unique nature but trying to achieve the same result as the App-we-use , the focus should be more on the-other's-users .
Houdini is not the first 3D-app one has used or will use . we all have spent years on using more or less similar programs with similar workflows . so more tutorials about “ the same thing but in an alternative way ” would help many us here to better understand and fit to Houdini … and , of course , would help SESI to make Houdini more popular .
if not real cases at least some useful examples .
it is fun when i ‘ play ’ with particles and RBDs but it has been a lot more useful to me when i started to model , shade and render even small things with Houdini . these kind of sessions helps me more than anything else when i consider to make the switch and trust my future projects ( no matter how spectacular those might be ) to Houdini .
another note ; if i was SESI , i'd find a way to encourage more and more experienced Houdini users to share more “ when they can ” .
the fact that there aren't as many as other 3Dapps tutorials ( which reflect their popularity ) out there , makes me thinking three times for the “ switch ” ( the second thinking is for the price ) .
rmageeshading married with rendering … please .
PS - it is always great to hear which areas of Houdini you want to learn about the most. Thanks for the feedback.
that's the most crucial zone in any major 3D app in general and everyday's works , imho …
.thank you

this happens to me only when my computer cannot connect to sidefx web ( no internet ) ; and in those cases i get another small window which tells me that . ( i cannot remember exactly its message )
it seems to have been my connection issue ( temporary lost connection ) which i immediately have verified .
once i am reconnected ; everything goes fine .

Thank you for stopping by and leaving me your proposal and idea. Good day. Lily
hi Lily ,
great job so far !
do you mind sharing here if not entirely , where and how did you used Houdini to generate those pics ?
lately i am really interested to see how Houdini is used in archviz too ( modeling , shading , lighting & Co ) and you ( your studio ) seem to have nailed it .
any word would be much appreciated …
.thank you

seems doable in two ways ; a- inside shader networks , b- within a dedicated img comp ( since there the apply modes exist ) and link / point the texture input file to the output of comp.

again congratulations for the redesigned documentation of H11 ! i'm liking a lot what i'm reading there .
just a tiny suggestion ;
when i go back to a page where a hyperlinked text was clicked before , it is almost impossible to distinct it from any other normal text .
this does not happen with H10 docs .
i do not know if others are having the same prob , but those links seems to loose their ‘ functionality ’ for me …

I recently did the CMIVFX procedural city tutorial, and I think it doubled my last year's worth of Houdini knowledge …
…
I may check out more of their video content; this one was very very good!
agreed ;
i own the whole Houdini Bundle ( except the last one , Proced.Cities ) and i'm very happy with the content .
those make Houdini a lot more palpable for me especially when video sessions have a “ target ” .
my suggestion would be this ;
lets test through a poll “ what apprentice users need from a Houdini video tutorial ” . this might be useful not only to SideFX but to official houdini-video-makers too .
short but effective videos could be linked within docs too ( like example scenes ) .
i'm not lazy , but i believe that this could help me ( and others like me ) to gain, a lot faster, confidence with this “ masterpiece of software ” .
.cheers
