Thank you for your comments
I'm working on a new scene since last sunday, still rendered with Houdini and Mantra (PBR engine), more dark and old mood this time. Here is a Work in progress image, the compass is not shaded yet. The globe need more work etc…
and ragupasta I agree, I don't understand why we dont see more pictures done with mantra, just the fact that you can use a micropolygone & a PBR engine in the same software is very nice !

Thank you for your comment ! and oh yes I forgot the Platonic SOP
Well, everything in the picture is in 3D ( even smoke, done with houdini's smoke ), just the orange sky and the tree outside are done with photoshop, the shadow of the tree at the right of the picture is done by a mantra shader, with the help of an “emission” map.

Hello !
Here is a picture that I made with Houdini 11 & Rendered in Mantra, all stuff are done with houdini (Shading, texturing, lighting, rendering), I stole the teapot to 3dsMax I just used photoshop for the background…. Some comp work done with Nuke !

Hello,
I'm learning Houdini and for that I'm creating a little picture, a wizard in his lab'
I come from MentalRay so I have few questions… so of course the picture is still very rough but I have already a quite long rendering time … around 25 minutes in 400x600. So, for this kind of picture I made the scene with a micropolygon rendering, a low level sampling and a GI shader with path tracing.
I have also a lot of raytrace shaders and some displacement shaders. Is it normal to have this rendering time ? It's sound to me that it's too long, what can I do for reduce it ? With the raytrace engine mantra just doesn't begin the rendering !
my PC : intel quad 2.66 GHZ 3Go RAM…
It also seams that I have a lot of nose but not everywhere ! It's look like just shadows are noisy but I haven't any area spot … ( just normal spotLight and two Omni )
Also any idea for these black spot on the Orb ? ( in a Frosted-Glass shader … )
Outch a lot of questions sorry… Thank you very much ! and sorry for my English too…

hello Rob, and thank you !
I haven't my scene here, but I made a little exemple.
In my Lsystem network, i have a Cache1 node, and I'd like to link the “Clear cache” button of the cache1 node to the “Clear cache” button on my “CONTROLS” null node.
With “paste copied relative reference”, that doesn't work
I saw, in the documentation that I have to use a callback script ? But how to find the script behind this “Clear cache” function ?

Hello,
I'm creating a simple custom tool and I have a problem, I would like to link a custom parameter of a null node to the option “clear cache” from a cache node in my nodetree.
I tried to create a simple button and after that copy/past this button on the “clear cache” button on the node but … that doesn't work
Any idea ?
Thanks !

Hello,
I'm trying to learn linear workflow in houdini. For this, I go in “edit -> color setting” and I put the gamma correction to 2.2.
After that, when I have a texture used by a shader, for instance here a lamber, I put a pow node between the surfacecolor output “color” and the input of the Lambert1 diffuse color. With a exponent value set to 2.2.
My render seems to be correct ( without map too washed up ). But is it the good way to do this ? I have to do this every time I use a color map ? or are there other better ( right ? ) ways ?
Thank you very much,
G.

Hello,
Another little question. I'm following a tutorial about L-System in Houdini. And I have a probleme with a step in which we have to reorder the point number of a L-System. ( for, further, map a nurbs grid on this Lsys ).
L system expression :
X
X = F X
That's, ok. And I have, after a delete node for delete the first primitive ( 0 ) something like the file attached. Avec that, in the tutorial, we put a “sort” node for reorder points by this expression :
point(“../delete2”,$PT,“pp”,0)
That's doesn't work I tried with “P”, “pp”, or “pn” before the 0 but no good results… Any idea ?
Thank you very much !
