Hey there guys.
So now that SideFX is moving away from shops to material networks how do we actually work with these?
In Shops its very easy to distinguish each material, because you place a material first and then dive into it to create the shaders.
but if I place down a mat network and tab I see right away all the building blocks for making materials.
So I guess what I am saying is how do we now manage materials if all the nodes for all of the shaders will be visible.?
I mean, what is a good practice of how it was meant to be used?
Nevermind

Cool stuff. ( These master classes are sooooo useful to get up and running because sometimes things are not self-explanatory. )
Cheers

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Server code change?

Hey there guys.
I have a question regarding the server code. The reason I ask is because back in February I purchased a license of Houdini Indie. It worked fine until.. just this weekend ( April 22nd ). I went to the cottage, and when I came back I noticed that my video card wasn't booting. So I took it out and put it back in. However, as I booted Houdini I was greeted with the license server and it telling me that the license server is running but it couldn't serve licenses.
So I guess the server code changed as a result of reseating the video card?
After trying a few things out I decided I would try to return the license and reinstall. This worked and Houdini launches again.
But I got me worried a bit now because Houdini says it can only allow me to return licenses 2 more times.
What if I add a hard drive? What if I upgrade video cards, or replace one.
I would hate to run out of license returns before my subscription is up and be without a license.

Technical Discussion » measure sop for scale relativity

Hey there guys.
I have a question on a topic that I haven't figured out how to make work.
Its all about relativity using the measure sop.
So I get an area attribute for every primitive, which I might want to pipe into something like extrude distance. So when an object gets bigger, the primitive area gets larger and so the extrude distance grows as well.
How would I go about this?

First impression - Houdini 16 works quite slowly with high quantity of polygons. Is it common? How to fix it?
I did notice that turning off textured icon improves performance a LOT, and it was the main culprit of my performance issues.
Houdini Lounge » H14- attribute vop, point vop.. difference?

Hey there guys. I have been meaning to ask.
What is the difference between these two? i looked through the nodes in both and at a glance i didn't notice a difference.
is there a reason why the vopsop was separated out to a few different types? is it mostly for future?
