Very cool tool, but really needs some work. Probably have to learn it some more, but was such a frustrating experience.

Completely failed my main idea so Flippy had to save me.
Wanted to make one of those paper party horns that rolls out, but it just kept exploding on inflation.

This took way too long. Topobuild could be a pretty decent general modeling node with some tweaks but is very cumbersome as is.
Got there though so could be worse

Technical Discussion » Fix for 18.5.351 Minimal Pyro Solver Start Frame Bug
- MathiasJ

Ran into an issue with the new Minimal Pyro Solver from the 18.5.351 production build, where it stops working when you set any other starting frame than 1 i.e. 1001 for my project.
Friend suggested updating to a daily build as he had no issues with it, and it works great now.
Also remember that if your GFX card doesn't have enough VRAM it won't load the sim either.
Check to make sure the right device of your system is set for OpenCL in Preferences>Miscellaneous>OpenCL Device.
Just in case anyone else gets this.

Technical Discussion » the OPENCL solve function seems doesn't work as I expected.

I was getting the same problem where my sim just disappeared when I enabled the Minimal Solver.
Turns out it was because Houdini had set my internal GFX card as the Main OpenCL device and not my Geforce so there wasn't enough VRAM to even start the sim.
EDIT:
While this worked in a simple scene with a sphere, I can't get it to work for my current project sadly.
Been testing it out more and my scene is setup with a start frame of 1001, where the sim doesn't work.
When I set the start frame to 1 though it works fine. Been trying to change the sim setup to go from 1001 in case it didn't recognize it automatically as the start or something but nothing works.
EDIT EDIT:
Friend had no problem with using a different start frame than 1. He was on a newer daily build and suggested I do the same.
Works perfectly now. Production build must have a bug.

Houdini Lounge » Suggestions: Day/Night Cycle rig

Hey all,
I work with natural environments in Houdini and was thinking a day/night cycle rig like you can set up in Unreal might be a nice addition.
Maybe something where you could also add in a cloud system and changing backgrounds. Might be more of a Labs thing than core Houdini.
Could anyone else us this?
Cheers,
Mathias

Are there any 3Delight Houdini resources out there by the way?
Forum, Discord server, different YouTube channels or something?
The Houdini 3Delight documentation is a bit sparse and refers to some Maya features as well that don't seem to be present in the Houdini version.

Am testing out 3Delight at the moment as well and can only echo the intuitiveness. So easy to get into and with great results
One thing has me stomped though. Am trying to comp a logo on top of a cloth texture and control its position, repetitionand scale so there's only one logo on the object.
I've got them blended together but can't find a way to control the position, repetition and scale of the logo.
