use your grid above the surface as an emitter and apply a negative force (gravity) to your particles. then use a collision pop and select your surface as collision geometry, within the collision pop you can specify that the particles slide.
I'm not near Houdini at the moment, so can't set up a sample scene.

For the eyelids you could creep a curve over your eyeballs followed by a trail sop and skin sop, which should prevent the surface intersecting with your eyeballs.

Edward,
I would imagine that you set the opacity based on the flow that has passed, but I haven't tried it out yet, since he just wants a few ideas.

Ok one more, you could create a melting effect with your shader rather then geometry. Check out this paper:
Jos Stam, “Flows on Surfaces of Arbitrary Topology”, In SIGGRAPH 2003 Conference Proceedings, Annual Conferences Series, July 2003
It's a good starting point.
Any body else any suggestions?

Another method: you could flatten your object in UV space, send some noise through and clip, unflatten object, now you've got some ‘melting/burning’ going on, take the burned geometry and use as softbody basis for example.

well you could build your object with metaballs, which then can easily be ‘melted’, just an idea

I need to set up an audit trail with Houdini, meaning from opening the program or a file everything gets recorded into a text file, and it has to be everything, including undo's, operator, time, date etc.
Any body any experience or helpful hints on how to set this up?
Cheers

Nate,
Thats the problem, someone dropped the ball. I've heard already on the net who won, but expected SESI to make an official anouncement
I'm pretty sure that not all 737 entries were able to attend. BTW it seems a pretty low number, are you sure?
Oh I've entered the FX challenge.
Any one from SESI here who can say something to this?
Cheers

All awards will be announced at the Houdini Annual Meeting during SIGGRAPH, July 27th, 2003 in San Diego, CA.

What ever happened to it. With Siggraph over now more then a week and still no official anouncement, has it been cancelled? If not I'm sure those of us who couldn't attend would love to hear something and see the winning entries.

Ah, solved the problem by installing the 3ivx codec from
www.3ivx.com
now I can play the videos in QT or WM or any other player and they work fine.

I have a problem playing the latest tutorial videos (DIVX).
The video is there but no audio:
Unknown audio Tag1 play video only….
If I open the videos with QT player I get the audio just fine.
Oh yes I did install the latest DIVX player and codec.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

You can use a creep SOP to creep your source along the surface or slightly above and thus can apply new forces to your particles.

I have to particle systems setup and like to trigger a birthing event when at least 30% of the particles have collided from the two different sources.
I was thinking of some ‘if - then’ statment or via a VEX network, but not quite sure.
Any ideas to create this procedural would help.
Cheers

No I am dealing mainly with VEX shaders and are trying to use my L-system as basis for a displacement shader, rather than writing a new one.

Hi all,
I have animated an L-System and are now trying to use it as a basis for my VEX system any ideas?
I don't want to render out the L-System I am trying to keep everything in 3d, I just need to find a way to hook the L-System into my VEX network keeping in mind that it changes over every frame and has to be user adjustable.
Many thanks in advance.

Hey Mark,
Not a problem just email me when you're ready, although I don't know yet what I will be doing, but it's certainly a possibility to consider.

Mark,
The training at Escape is a customized one on one with an industry professional for 5 days (Stuart).
I've just spoken to him and agreed that we will cover advanced topics since all the basic stuff I can learn myself via the tutorials, already done quite a bit of work.
Will start next Thursday.
