I am currently using Houdini Apprentice 10.0.295 on a laptop running Windows Vista 32 bit. I am trying to work on some tutorials out of the 3D Buzz Python: Creating Tools in Houdini DVD.
Following the dvd's' instructions, I copied the wx folder from C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\wx-2.8-msw-ansi to C:\Program Files\Side Effects Software\Houdini 10.0.295\houdini\scripts\python to install wxPython in Houdini's python.
I tried to run a little script I wrote from the shelf and got the following two error messages:
This application has failed to start because python26.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found.
My problem is I am running Python 2.6 on my laptop, so I installed wxPython for Python 2.6. However, the Python installed in Houdini is Python 2.5. Any solutions?

I downloaded Houdini Apprentice 10 and started to use it. Everything was fine until I downloaded and installed Internet Explorer 8. Now I get the following error message:
Unable to connect to hserver for licence acquisition.
I am currently running Houdini on Dell laptop using 32 bit Windows Vista. I went to Services through the Control Panel and found HoudiniServer. I located hserver.exe in C:\Windows\system32.
I launched the Houdini License Administrator. The valid licenses seem to be installed. According to that program, the license server is running and is allowed to serve licenses. The license server allows license modifications from my laptop.
Not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions?

I blew away the config directory. I launched a fresh scene and clicked on the Channel Editor tab. Houdini still crashed. Any other suggestions or should I report this problem as a bug?

This happens when I launch Houdini and then click on the Channel Editor tab. I can also crash Houdini by clicking the RMB on a parameter and selecting either Scope Channels or Scope Append Channels as well as using the hot keys. I have seen the same result with a fresh file as well as previously saved files.
A colleague at work has suggested that a file in my config directory may have become corrupted. I noticed this problem started yesterday after I was doing a lot of animating in the Channel Editor. I'm going to blow away the config directory and see what happens.

I'm running Houdini Apprentice on a Dell laptop running 32 bit Windows Vista. For some reason, entering the channel editor causes Houdini Appretnice to crash. I have restarted my computer several times. That didn't solve the problem. I was using Houdini Apprentice 9.5.248, so I removed that and downloaded 9.5.379. I am still having the problem. I have 4GB of RAM, so I would imagine memory is not an issue. Has anyone had a similar issue?

I'm thinking about buying a new laptop to run Houdini Apprentice HD. According to the systems requirements, Houdini can run on Windows XP and Vista. Since I always upgrade my OS when I get a new computer, I'm planning on getting Vista. Which Vista is the best for Houdini?

After I installed Houdini Apprentice HD 9.1, I got the following error message:
Warning: OpenGL shader extensions not available. This is a limitation of your video card or driver, and will prevent Houdini from using GLSL shaders. Set the HOUDINI_OGL_ENABLE_SHADERS to zero to avoid attempts to use this extension.
I am using a Dell laptop with Windows XP Professional and a NVIDIA GeForce GO 6800 graphics card.
What does this error mean? How can I set HOUDINI_OGL_ENABLE_SHADERS to zero?

Hi! I'm using then new DVD from digital-tutors called “Introduction to Houdini 9”. When I open the file whiskers_start.hip, I get the following error message:
Warning: “/shop/clay/claySurface/uvcoords1” using incomplete asset definition (full definition not found).
I followed the given path down to uvcoords1. When I MMB the uvcoords1, I just see the same error message.
What is causing this error? How can I fix it?

Hi! I am running Houdini 9 Apprentice HD (build 9.0.794) on a Dell laptop running Windows XP with a NVIDIA Geforce Go 6800 graphics card.
I am working on an old Houdini tutorial that teaches
you how to build a rollercoaster. Unfortunately, when
I view the geometry through one of my cameras, the
geometry flickers. The geometry turns black and then
back to its original color.
I have played with the clipping planes in the cameras
and the lights. I have tried to adjust the normals
with the Facet SOP. I read one frame of the track out
and imported it back in. None of these solutions
worked.
What did work was changing the two distant lights I
used to an area light. I removed the scene file with
the area light to make the zip file smaller.
I have approached colleagues and people on forums
about this problem for several weeks and have tried
their solutions to no avail. I hope you can help me!
Thank you!

The build of Houdini is Houdini 9.0.794.
I wasn't able to locate a new driver from Nvidia. I might have to get a new graphics card.

Hi!
I'm working on the Simple UVs tutorial. When I apply a texture to my geometry with the Material SOP, all of the text in my Houdini window becomes illegible. Do you know what is causing this? Is it a graphics card issue? I am running Houdini 9 Apprentice HD on Dell laptop with Windows XP and a Geforce Go 6800 card. I have attached a screenshot of my Houdini window with this message.

I am using Houdini Apprentice on my Dell laptop. When I first downloaded Houdini, I would always see the default box when I launched Houdini Master. However, after using the Quick Start tutorial from the Help page, I don't see the default box when I launch a fresh scene. I'm pretty sure that I used the box to construct the rocket from the Quick Start tutorial. Could this have caused my problems? How can I get the box back? I hope I don't have to uninstall and reinstall Houdini to get it.
