the new attribdataid function returns an integer array of length 4.
while the last array element is clear and can be seen also in the node info, i was wondering what the first 3 entries are referring to.

two ways:
1st:
with your component selected (e.g. primitives) in the viewport press “m” key to toggle between world/local/view/component mode.
2nd (not that comfortable in my opinion): select (object or component), RMB on handle, choose “Handle Parameters…”.
does same as above.
hope this helps,

Beside that are you sure a fetch sop doesn't work, here it's working ok, rotation transform and scale ..
not for me at least, maybe i missed something. thanks for the infos though!

Hi,
you can get the transforms by simply referencing them, even if you don't see them on the alembic nodes
I've stumbled upon that just a few days ago…
Ps: You can also put a bull in the alembic hierarchy this works too ;-)
thanks for the tip. so does that mean that the transforms are inside the abc but one cant seem them in the params?

hmm, can you explain what you mean by that? or am i mising something here?

Hi ,
add a pop wrangle with @pscale = 0.001 and set the pop geometry node to render as circles
Rob
thank you very much, Rob. seems to work.
just because i really want to understand whats going on: what is the difference between this approach and the Pointscale parameter in the Geo/Render tab? i tried that yesterday, using a value of 0.01 (with a prior pscale of 0.01), which gives a me not the desired result (my screenshot from yesterday). isn´t that a kind of a post-multiplier on the pscale attrib?
thanks again.

hello forum,
using H14, i cant get mantra to render points only. i have millions of advected particles and wanna render it “krakatoa”-style, which means really as points only - and no sprites, circles or spheres. of course i googled, but all posts tell me to set the geo/render/geometry to “render as points”, but still i am getting sprites (i am rendering extremly close, my cam is almost inside the pointcloud). tried micropolygon, raytrace, pbr.
attached a screenshot which i hope makes clear what i mean. or am i missing somehting obvious? noob bug?
thanks in advance.

“What's the main difference between the two solvers? How come it doesn't require a DOPnet? ”
there is none. the solver you add in sop-context is an asset, whereas the actual SOP-solver (rather an operator than an asset) is used in dop-context. afaik, what the asset does is: fetch the SOP into DOPs, add “simulation” data to it - just think of an simulated ICE-tree - meaning all values are updated in each step - and write that data back into SOPs. as you already recognized, you can see this by diving into the asset and looking at the node-path:
obj/geo1/d/s
“d” in this case stands for “DOP Network” and “s” for “SOP Solver”.
hope this helps.
and please correct me i´m wrong guys, i just dived into H recently.

hello forum,
is there any way to extract transfroms and especially rotation channel out of an alembic file coming from other apps?
i can read out pos data from the details view in points mode (static geo), but no rotations.
i tried fetch, extract transform, and even tried a workaround by putting a helper object with an look-at (in my case easy because my “target” is in world origin) - but with a look-at all rotations are set to zero again.
any suggestions?
thanks in advance
fuat
EDIT: solved it.
1. unpack the alembicarchive
2. on obj level, add a geo of your choice.
3. add a chop. inside chops, add an object node, set it to “compute full transforms”. target to the unpacked abc-geo. plug that into an export node. activate. turn on orange “export” flag. in the path, set the channels you need (in my case tx ty tz rx ry rz). set node to your geo of your choice of step 2 (in my case a torus).
4. done. all the transform-channels are now transferred to the geo of your choice in global coords.
found with the help of google, forums, different posts, and a friend. all credits to those.

i just found (and never ever heard or read before) something that made me very happy so i thought i just share it:
menu->windows>textport, then type in “exhelp” (without the quotes) to get a list of all expression-commands.
and the best thing is it also gives you a description and examples on each function, so for example when you type “exhelp angvel” (or whatever expression you wanna get info about):
voilá.
i love it.

hello forum.
i have a cam with a look-at-object (null). now when i tumble around (with my viewing-cam locked of course), the viewport isnt updated while i am panning around. instead, it refreshes the new (correct) view only as soon as i stop moving around.
is there a way to keep the viewport updated while rotating around my look-at object?
am i missing something crucial? i checked the help and did a search of course before.
thank you

mandrake0
the tip from tamte:
the usept* is a filter expression that means it will show all the parameter value from the node with this parametername.
this case: usept0, usept1, usept2, usept3 ……
you can hover over with the mouse the activate / deactivate parameter from the point and you will see the parametername usept0 or a other value.
2. select node and RMB => Edit Parameter interface there are the parameters in the Parentheses or RMB => Animatable Parameters
thank you, mandrake.
the first one i found out already like mentioned, and for the second answer, i didnt know the animatable params. good to know.

works like a charm, thank you very much Thomas.
but now that i know, i wanna understand what i did (new to Houdini):
1. when hovering mouse-over the checkbox tick in the params, i realized that the tick´s param (corret me if i am wrong and its not a param) is called “usept” - but what does that stand for?
2. in general, is there any overwiew of all those params so i dont have to mouse-over and let go all the entries ony by one? or is this unneccesary to do?
i checked the help but couldnt find any.
thanks again

EDIT: i had an inspiration - it stands for “use point”. tadaa.
but question #2 still remains…

i assume there´s a way, no two ways, but i missed both of them.

that´s one reason i think, and another one i guess is maybe that one is used to have every newely generated object (no matter what kind of) in the origin.
at least i am.
and afaik H is the only tool offering the opportunity to place an object anywhere in the scene when creating it, isnt it?
