yo. are your cutters just a displaced plane? try changing "Treat As" - for your cup it gotta be "Solid", and the cutting geo set as "Surface"

cgshortsunironically it is already on the new platform, and runs natively. we are asking about XPU acceleration with M-chip GPU.
I presume that with each subsequent release of Houdini for Mac Silicon, more code will get optimised to take advantage Apple's new chip set. It must be a fairly large task to bring a program of the size and complexity of Houdini over to a new platform.

seems redundant to pressing "Num ." upon selection, which is Space+Shift+H in H
looks like more of a muscle memory thing, can't say it is necessary or whatnot

indeed, with the new M3 family coming with HWRT accelerators this is no longer just "asking for a friend"

this is factually incorrect, you literally wrote "there is no shading network like in Blender" and i quoted that. calling me dishonest is beyond my ability to take your contribution to discussion seriously
FYI, many studios develop their own solutions based on Houdini (one of the big ones that were announced was a whole new simulation package of additions by WETA, WetaH), as well as Unity, and UE. This does not make Houdini, nor any of those engines any less functional: it just lacked functions that were needed for production. Or are we going to have double standards now?

when a person insists there is no shading network in Houdini, what is the point of holding any reasonable conversation about functionalities of DCCs?
lost cause
just move on. let haters hate b3d on the basis of "it has many addons". whatever

GCharbi explained it above - you are using wrong material definition, and your example is incorrect. i am not sure what exactly you don't getosongWhat you are saying is that XPU is still in beta and not everything works, is that it, I am shocked! 😉
i think you are joking right now. like i said, apply triplanar, ramp, anything - it will fail. surely you cant be serious

the way you are doing this is wrong, and will not work in XPU

GCharbosongWe're talking about textures here, and those are assigned inside the shader nodes, not in a network, and the old Principled shader works just fine in XPU here!
BTW, you inserted the old principled shader in the Solaris space, it will not evaluate in XPU 👍
you are wrong. XPU does NOT understand vex shading definitions - more on that here https://www.sidefx.com/faq/karma/ [www.sidefx.com]
a simple test can be performed as such: apply VEX triplanar. It will run on Karma CPU but will fail on XPU
it must be done in mtlx nodes in this fashion

GCharbuhhh... what? 🫥 have you not seen shading network in blender? in Houdini?
Again, you do shading by assigning a shader node to the 3d model, there is no shading network like in Blender, there are no nodes that needs to be assigned, it's all within the shader node, and yes, movies work if you put them in a texture slot
this is my screenshot of blender network
this is my screenshot of solaris material network
GCharbwhy i am glad you've asked, i have the highest rated Mantra videos on the youtubes
have you ever shaded anything in Houdini? 🤔
BTW, you inserted the old principled shader in the Solaris space, it will not evaluate in XPU 👍

GCharbdropping an image file into shader network of blender automatically assigns a required node. no additional steps-substeps-whatever. super handy and fast, for iterative approach it's the way
You don't create shader networks in Houdini, you work with shader nodes, you can drag and drop images/movies in shader nodes texture slots no problems!
also, "You don't create shader networks in Houdini" - how are you even shading then...
anyway - movie files dont work all the same. requires some mumbo jumbo explained elsewhere on forums (it was about animated image sequence, no idea if it will even work with .mp4 or .mov) - with virtual production on the rise this is so whacky to not "just work"
thankfully i am doing this ^ in UE nowadays, but the point remains

visual design? dont really care. it looks okay, but works not okay. whats the point of it looking prettier and still not performing any good?
i was thinking about "design is how it works not how it looks"
some people suggested new icons or something.. it will change nothing

Digipiction
And I fail to see what makes the top left outdated.
i can give you one example right off the bat. you can scroll through tab presets in blender, and when you move mouse to the edge of the screen, cursor does not get stuck on the screen edge, but jumps to the opposite side, so you can easily continue scrolling the Playbar.
small things like that will go a long way
oh and you can drag and drop images right into material networks. imagine that! but there's more - you can drag and drop MOVIES and use them as a texture, and "it just works".
good luck with that in karma
how is Houdini not outdated in that regard?

I am curious, what are the advantages of Steam over the launcher?
i dont have to deal with license shenanigans, at all. this was a big deal on macos, it was very wonky. it also updates automatically, and other steam-related good stuff
