Hey all,
I think I am askign this correclty.
Im essentally trying to apply my normal maps to my geo without using a texture node and have the normal map displace my geo. Is there a way to do that? I got this method to work with displacement maps using a method another houdid user showed on here, but it did not work when I tried with normal maps.
Iv attached the method he showed. is there a normal map equivalent?

Hey all,
Its probably a beginner/noob question but does anyone have a tutorial or place of reference I can use to convert an older shader I
made from a Maya Blinn shader rendered with Mental ray to a Principle shader that can be rendered with mantra?

Hey guys I keep getting this issue when I go to the scene view from the geometry view in my project and I can figure out why this is happening as the giant grey geo in nowhere in my project at all? Any advice on what I should do?

Hey all,
Im currently working on this rig for my elephant as part of my project. I finished the rigging but Im having a bit of trouble with the skinning. The default worked great, but I needed to touch up some areas. Any suggestions on setting for the paint weights brush, or the capture weights tool, so everything isn't as blended form the get go? Also what the best way to iso view the specific bone weight you want? I tired to find it but when I try to iso a specific bone everything just goes to one color.
Also as far as IK FK blending goes does anyone have any advice as to make the FK move along with the IK? What I mean is when the IK switches to FK my leg moves back to the default position. Would I just need to parent the FK controls to the IK?

Nice work indeed. Do you have an example of how you use a texture map? I'm also working with hair & fur for the moment and was wondering how exactely to apply such a texture map to add color to specific places.
Hello Ceninarijo, in the hair shader use the material tab in the hair generation node and you can apply whatever texture you want to the fur using the hair shader. But say you would like to make a particular piece of fur lighter or darker or have a different color, what you need to do paint a group on the mesh and then use that to group to paint the highlights or darken the sections you want to edit
Apologies on the delay in response I never get notifications for some reasons on responses to the threads

@Ambercyde
so what I did was use the texture map I had on the fur to color the hair. and then I uses a paint map to specifically target the blue stripes in order have control over how bright it was

I Kinda cheated it a bit, I was running very short on time for my submission so I made the collision between the gorilla and his clothes in Ncloth a bit wider and then when I imported into Houdini, I use a guide length node and bend node in hair groom to control the hairs so they would not stick out of the clothes.

Was able to figure it out, just put down the file cache node in the fur generate right before the output. The cache might be a bit big but the fur sim will play more smoothly in the view port

Thankyou very much!!
I ended up just using the blast node to remove the unwanted hairs, because that the guide groom was being used for

Hey all,
here is something I have been working on as part of one of my classes at SCAD.
The textured gorilla and walk cycle were provided to me but all of the clothes and dynamics were made by me.
The fur was made in Houdini 16
The cloth was made in Maya's N-Cloth but some of the wraps and constrains were created in Houdini

Hey guys just a quick question. Im not sure if its a pipeline thing or a setting needs to be changed but when I add a guide groom node inside the hair generate node, it will no longer follow the guide deform node? is there something i can do to fix that?

Hey Guys,
I created a fur groom for a project I am working on and I wasn't sure where to cache the fur?
im using houdini 16
Im trying to get the fur to follow the animation of my character to make it easier to view in the viewport
this is the undergroom, so i don't need the guides to move, just to follow the object
I have
The Guide Groom
The Hair generate
The Guide Deform
where would I put the file Cache? and which type would I use?

Hey all,
this is probably a very basic question. But i have a script that I am trying get this script to run on my .bashrc but this part of the code was made for linux but I want it to work on my mac
This was the code for Linux
/opt/hfs16.0.633" to point to your houdini location.
what would the equivalent be for a mac?
or would it be the same?
im running mac os sierra
and my houdini is installed normally on the computers hard drive, but i can't find this specific file path
iv tried to goole it but i was not getting any helpful results
