it worked with the version 3 and eps should also work.
what you can try:
* no pixeldata should be in it
* Fonts have to be convert to curves (otherwise you see nothing)
i test it with a simple ai file and it works(rectangle, text).

Constantin XWe have to wait what the new release brings i think they will solve some problems in modeling and animation.
I find there is a serious lack of features into this aspect of modeling witch i extensively use in production. An upgrade into this area will be more then welcome, crucial to my modeling/animation work. There are also few other missing features:
C
Constantin X
- a serious(or better said total) lack of support for importing CAD files
C
We are using in the company polytrans and even this converter has problems with some files we get from the customer. it's surly a task that sesi can do better but it's a big one. even cad software can't support all formats correctly.
Constantin Xcount me in for this. i think this situation is more a current problem than befor most of the money came from the big studios and they have a department for this. you can have a look at dany lyons shader: http://www.orbolt.com/asset/_danylyon::PBR_layered_material [orbolt.com]
- few dozens Matra pbr materials(the most often used ones) with variation possibilities: glass; metal, wood, concrete, pavement etc;
C
Constantin Xi know it would be nice to have more but mostly when you want default trees speedtree is today a good solution :-)
- few dozens of L-System presets(fir tree, grass, decorative plants etc);
C
Constantin Xi have made a RFE for a better integration from orbolt and other stores assets. like double tab in the network pane to search directly in the orbolt store or integrations of flickr, istock photos because when you have integrate a store or a portal that has millions of images and assest that are CC it's get used when you don't have to search in all the portals by yourself.
- a small but well thought library of the most used objects;
C
Constantin Xthere are some beach as a example :-)
- few already textured and animated scenes(witch can be modified by the user): mountain, plain/hills, beach etc;
C
there also tutorials on cmivfx for google maps integration.
Constantin Xis the Environment Light => Sky Environment Light Map => Sun so bad?
- a much improved daylight system(Cinema 4d is THE best example to look at)
C
there is also the possability to integrate the compositor in to the light system so you can get a very simple version of a HDR Studio.

When you have got crashes with houdini or Realflow (never used it) look at the drivers(GPU, USB, Wacom Tablet,…) on your computer. when you have a buggy driver they will crash.
current version i can run houdini weeks long with no crash and TByte of data generation.
for your crown shape there was a request at odforce:

kabatHoudini Indie => Houdini Software for Indie's
Hello, can you tell me what are the differences between Houdini Indie and Houdini Engine Indie. ?
Houdini Engine Indie => Batch and Plugin for other Software. you can't model or create tools.
kabatSo you need Houdini Indie
I want to use Houdini to create digital assets and 3d modles + uv maps for Unity 3d.
kabatWhen you buy Houdini Indie the license allow you to use the plugin on that system.
If I buy Houdini Indie I will be able to use unity plugin for houdini ?
Or I must buy both of them (houdini indie + houdini engine indie) ??
about the Plugin its at the bottom:
http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=244&Itemid=399 [sidefx.com]
kabatit looks like Yes:
Another question: Can I sell digital assets on orbolt by using indie license ? The people who have standard license will be able to use those digital assets ?.
Cheers!!

Uhh… that makes me a problem. As i will not be able to continue learning Houdini at home. And no possibility to open indie files at home either.
Well if you want to learn you can use a Apprentice version at home and in the company for learning propose.
when you have a contract you can use the Indie version. for a private project use the indie version because of the limitation. when you just want to test something you can do it with the Apprentice edition.

Houdini Indie is now released: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2853&Itemid=66 [sidefx.com]
Could you say if it's possible to use one license on 2 machines? For example if i have home and work machines.
Or possibly to use one license on 2 machines at the same time?
I'm just thinking on buying the indie license, but i found no info about license using.
Thanks.
The license is per workstation so you have to buy for 2 machine 2 license.

it doesnt make Much sense to add another language. for speed up the python code you have inlinecpp. vex is also there for the manipulation part so it would make things much more complicated.

the maya thing:
what suprise me is that the maya linux version is not stable. when i last try it was looking stable and fast and it was on ubuntu. so i used alien to convert the rpm's to deb packages. maybe archlinux has some libs that are a bit diffrent compiled or something like that. you can try centos on that it should work flawless.
houdini:
you can buy one and when it works copy the license key file and install it on the other partion. when it works you have some bucks for later when you need more render/batch power. :-)

what you can do is to install on both partitions a Houdini Apprentice and look at the license manger if the licence server code is the same.
Good idea, unfortunately it is different, same machine, different OS
get in contact with sidefx…. ask them.
maybe with the separate license server it will work. :-/

i think it should work on both systems. (not 100% sure)

$300 a year for a tool that you can use commercially of this caliber is more than fair. It's honestly far more than I was hoping for.
From the looks of it this includes upgrades for the year.
Another question about render resolution, is the size limitations of 1920X1080 in effect when baking texture maps?
the 1920x1080 limit is for animation. stills are unlimited. :-)
well one question from my side.
Does the Houdini Indie Engine has one Mantra Token with it?

the tip from tamte:
the usept* is a filter expression that means it will show all the parameter value from the node with this parametername.
this case: usept0, usept1, usept2, usept3 ……
you can hover over with the mouse the activate / deactivate parameter from the point and you will see the parametername usept0 or a other value.
2. select node and RMB => Edit Parameter interface there are the parameters in the Parentheses or RMB => Animatable Parameters
