Hi,
Given a GEO_PrimMesh, what methods/macros are there to iterate through the quads/triangles that are present in the primitive ?

Technical Discussion » H16 Cloth : Loop selection

Hi,
Getting into cloth side of things.
Found some (H12) video tutorial that uses the loop-selection using ‘l’ but this has been change to ‘a’ after H12 I believe.
When attaching cloth to a body, I want to do a edge loop selection of points around the collar without having to click on individual points but it seems that ‘a’ behaves differently when in the Cloth mode of H16.0.671 or is that workflow not going to work ?
Cheers

Hi,
Are you using the character ‘!’ as a negation ?
Depending on which make program you use, it might be the ‘-’ character (I don't have windows to verify at the moment)

Any example python code to illustrate the above ?

Hi,
Rhino3D IGES export has many (20-30) variants
I am wondering which one proves most seamless when importing the generated IGES into Houdini.

Hi,
I'd like to find out if anyone has installed H15 on the newly released Ubuntu 16.04 LTS ? Any issues e.g. building the HDK examples with different compilers that comes with Ubuntu 16.04 etc
I am just checking before I upgrade my laptop.
Cheers

Hi,
Is Win7 still a suitable platform to run H15 ?
I have a machine with the current WHQL GeForce drivers that has OpenGL 4.5
I have found that although I am able to run the standard geometry stuff in Houdini 15, whenever I tried creating Pyro (via the Pyro Tools), I crash H 15 immediately.
Is this a known problem (being worked on) with a work around ?
I am happy to disable the OpenCL stuff if necessary (how ? HOUDINI_NO_OPENCL ? )
Cheers

Technical Discussion » [Q] Visualizing/rendering export DOP simulation files

Hi,
Via the shelf button, I can create standard pyro effects. I can render it.
I proceeded to export them as a series of *.bgeo.sc files
However, when I them back in a new scene with a simple DOP I/O node, I can see only a grey render. The flame and other features are gone.
I have the following newbie question.
Is it pretty common for pyro/volume data to be exported and reuse later in a different scene ? If so, what tutorial/learning material should I read up or watch to understand how the volumetric attribute like temperature and fuel can be re-map back into a render resembling the original. I am unsure if the focus should be on learning about the rendering/shading aspect or the DOP/attribute-wrangling/mapping aspect.
Cheers

I am wondering if I can deploy a shared installation of Houdini Apprentice and through some environment variable $USER in $HFS/houdini/Licensing.opt direct each user to pick up their own licenses ?
e.g.
localValidatorDir = <path>/$USER/sesi/licenses
e.g.

Have you tried to right-click-save-as-OBJ approach in the SOP ? Might not fully answer your question but at least you have *.obj as a starting point.

Technical Discussion » [hython] Global Animation Options : Toggling ?

Guillaume
It doesn't seem to be exposed to HOM.
Please log an RFE for it.
You can tweak the settigns by calling the fplayback hscript command from python.
https://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini14.0/commands/fplayback [sidefx.com]
To toggle the value you'll have to parse the output of the command when calling it without argument.
Thanks for the hscript link.
From that page, it provides to equivalent hou approach.
hou.playbar.setUseIntegerFrames(0)
so, as of H14, it is exposed. I have just verified that it works in H15.
Thanks Guillaume

Hi,
From within hython/hou/hom, how can I query + toggle on/on various options in the Global Animation Options panel?
At the moment, I am interested to toggle off “Integer Frame Values”

Hi,
I am returning to compiling my Houdini code on the Windows platform.
Have people been able to use VS2012 x64 Express to build Houdini plugins/SOP/standalone application ?
Seems that hcustom is looking for the cl.exe in some amd64 directory which is not present (at least in the VS2012 Express I installed)
Working around that, there was some link issues with _BitForward*64 missing
I have been able to build 64 bit plugins and apps for other DCC so I believe my setup is fine (but you never know)
Any wisdom I can tap into ?
Cheers

Hi,
I am using Houdini Apprentice fine, however, when I tried to run hython from the command line, I get a license error.
No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host
Is there some limitation with using hython when the license is local ?
My $HFS/houdini/Licensing.opt contains these
licensingMode = localValidator
localValidatorDir = <path to licenses>
Cheers

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Rendering license : checkout problem

Solved!
I had a stale copy of Licensing.opt in the $HOME directory and I was firing up Houdini from my $HOME.
I was reorganising my directories due to disk space and had left a copy of Licensing.opt in $HOME that points to a non-existent license location.
I did have an updated and correct copy of Licensing.opt in $HFS/houdini
I started houdini in $HOME, it works fine I guess because houdini looks for licensing configuration in $HFS/houdini so that works fine.
Whereas for mantra, the search order is different (I discover this through strace), mantra found a Licensing.opt (stale) in the current directory ($HOME) and used that instead of $HFS/houdini
I guess mantra search order needs to take into account farm/network rendering requirement.
I thought I write this up as it might benefit others.
Cheers

I noticed that if I were to run “mantra” from $HFS there is no license issue.
If mantra is run from somewhere else, I get that license error.

Hi,
I have installed the recent versions of H13 (13.0.729) and H14 (14.0.291) using local licensing for ease of administration.
I have been using local licensing for about 1 year now.
Whilst the application works (licensing wise), I have not been able to render with Mantra
hkey tells me I have 1 render token for each H13 and H14
when I render in either version, I get
“No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host”
Has there been recent changes to how Mantra is retrieving licenses ?
Cheers
