Just a quick question:
How we controll the character of the tank fluid? For example, if we want to create bigger splashes etc.
Thanks.
EDIT: I mean, the viscosity is at 0… and it setill looks like MUD…

So you had the same problem?
Not being able to render the fluid in the “object dropping into a fluid” example?

..I am confused about:
Which shaders are used for creating *.i3d?
Which shaders have to be assigned or linked back to the *.i3d file later?
At what level we give the shape of the clouds… at the shader that is exported as *.i3d? …or the shader later linked to the *.i3d?
Thanks.

Hi,
I am trying to render an i3d teapot…
I have the teapot created out of metaballs… and the workflow follows as below:
model (metaball teapot) -> export shader: VEX Meta Cloud (default) -> export MANTRA: 3D Texture Generator ( creates the *.i3d file)
then
A FOG object pointing to the *.i3d file (isoSurface) -> import shader assigned to the FOG object: VEX 3D Texture Fog (reads in the *.i3d file)
I do not know what is wrong… but it is a messy workflow… and it is either slow… or blank… something is wrong.
Here is the file.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,
I know this is a very big question… I know there are nice help files…
I just would like to know the workflow? any special mantra settings?
…any geometry exports?
Because I could not see the actual fluids in the final render when I tried to render one of the help examples.
Thanks.

Ow! I may try that… but I did not know that this is a H9 and H8 issue… I thought it is just that my layout is different…
But my firends tell me that this is new and is made to sync. the mouse habits of Shake and Maya with Houdini… So I guess it is better to get used to it…

Do you think I can reverse the function by editing the key interaction from the preferences some where? Right Click and Mid Click?

hi,
I have found the tool for linux. But it is too complicated for me… as usual…
Examples:
xsetwacom set stylus Button1 “button 5”
xsetwacom set stylus Button3 “dblclick 1”
xsetwacom set pad Button2 “core key ctrl alt F2”
xsetwacom set pad Button3 “core key quotedbl a test string quotedbl”
xsetwacom set pad striplup “core key up”
xsetwacom set pad stripldn “core key down”
I just do not know what the upper part and the lower part of my pen button is called? Then how will I assign the new functions?
Thanks.

Hi,
When my wireless connection is enabled, and is connected to a wireless network… i get proper server codes from “sesictrl -n”… the license manager works fine… H9 runs fine…
As soon as my wireless is down… I get a blank server code… the license manager reports invalid keys… the usual problems…
Anyway for not being dependent on network activity?
Thanks.

I have heard that people at Side Effects usually create in-house experimental OSX ports for each newly released Houdini version… starting from the old PPC days… not even intel… so it is not a technical issue… of course it is a business strategy…

Hi,
I have completed a long process of building a triple boot system. I simply followed the manuals here and there. Went through various posts and forums to fix small problems.
And finally it works. All the three OSes are pretty stable. Houdini runs perfect on the Linux site. It even renders faster than my desktop computer at the office. So If you have an intel based mac… you should try this. It is a hard quest… but everything is there on the net. Maybe the most critical thing to start with is choosing Ubuntu 7.04 and selecting the alternate text based installer… not the LiveCD.
For those who are still confused, I would like to repeat… this is not emulation, no virtual PC softwares… no Parallels and etc… three partitions, three independent systems. Of course you can choose just OSX and Linux.
//
Now I would like to now… I know that there are people who has done that. Since I am a newbie Linux user… I wounder what kind of tools do you install and use to speed up and enhance your Linux workflow…
I used the synaptic tool to download some small things like “kate” and some other critical system things needed to fix issues with MACs and linux… things like ATI driviers… CPU and HDD temperature tools etc… (all are listed in the online documentations)
But what else might be a good tweak to a Linux system (Ubuntu 7.04)… any of your favorite tools?
Thanks.
