Houdini Lounge » Nvidia rtx 4090 driver issues?

Yes this is still a thing, certain pockets of vellum still crashes on newer nvidia drivers. would be lovely to get this fixed! Also maybe consider outputting a Houdini 19 daily with these fixes as people are starting to run into vellum problems there as well, as 4090s become more and more available.

I am currently running into a wierd issue using 19.5.435 VAT 3.0 and UE 5/5.1
I am isolating just 1 crowd agent for the sake of testing, unpacking it so its just geo and using the Soft body preset to export the VAT. it "works" as in it loads and run in UE, but it looks not quite right and I cannot figure out why.
I have attached a few videos of different attempts and you can see how when the model is lying still ish, the points move in very odd ways, like a shimmer or just noisey. gives it this jagged look, I have tried everything from 256 to 8k in texture size and it seems to make no difference.
any pointers on why this stuff would happen would be most appreciated.
P.S. when I use a simple object like an animated box, it all seems to work fine, so I'm wondering if its something about the mesh or model or..?!

It would be great to know if this is one Nvidia or Sidefx to update / fix?
Is it because Nvidia updated some OpenCL stuff for their omniverse and now houdini needs to be updated too? or did Nvidia straight up break something that hopefully gets fixed in the new driver?

So I seem to have just run into this now and it seems, to me anyway, that it's still not working in neither Karma CPU or XPU, principle or MatX.
Can anyone confirm if that is infact the case? or if im likely just doing something wrong?
Cheers.

Any chance you could attach a hip file for that displacement shader bug?
Hello hello,
Yes of course, I should have attached that from the start, but forgot in my frustration it seems.
link below with hip and material used. (the material textures got too big for the forum to let me upload)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/in5cdlufi6zv6eb/0121_sidefx_displace_viewport_error.zip?dl=0 [www.dropbox.com]
Open the LOPnet when opening the hip and it should all be pretty straight forward.
Cheers.

I'm trying hard to not sound like an angry old man here, but the opengl viewport in Solaris is frustratingly bad.
There are constant issues with it not updating correctly, displaying things overlayed when they actually aren't and other weird glitches where you constantly sit and try and reset the viewport but you can't actually trust what you are seeing and you have no idea if it's your setup or just the viewport that makes things look strange.
But that aside.. you would think it could handle a simple material? (spoilers: it looks like it's related to the displacement map, but why? this should not be a thing).
I have attached a few screenshots of a simple cube, a simple material, a cube with a material rendered in karma looking all fine... and then opengl viewport that is meant to be the working in environment...
Houdini build is 19.0.561

Hello hello,
For reasons I won't go into I am stuck running houdini on a Macbook for a while and while loading up one my files, where I am using TOPs and specifically the "Download File" TOPs node.
in OSX I can't run this anymore due to the following error:
I have python 3 (3.10) installed and have run the certificate install there, which completed.
Also have to note, all this works perfectly fine without issues on Windows.
I'm not quite sure what Houdini wants and how I fix it, so anyone seen this before?
Thank you

Solaris and Karma » BUG: XPU does not render TGA texture files

I am listing this as a bug since, yes TGA is maybe used less these days, it is still a very valid format and older assets use them.
Anyway XPU completely fails and just renders black when a TGA file is used as a texture. As soon as I convert it to say jpeg, everything renders correctly.

Anyone got it working. We tested on another machine and it also does not start.
I can only talk about arnold 7 on H19, which works fine here.
