Can I use Houdini Apprentice and pay a render farm to render out my scene at 1080p? Just as I would pay for an individual with a proper license to do the same for me? I would assume the second scenario is perfectly legal as I would otherwise be paying the individual to create my entire scene, just this way I'm cutting costs for myself.
For the record this is just a simple intro I am creating for my YouTube channel and that's as far as I'll be taking Houdini in the foreseeable future. I've only just discovered Apprentice is restricted to a max resolution of 720p, and I'd rather not invest any more time only to find out I can't pay to have it rendered at 1080p. Paying the extra for an Indie license PLUS the render farm is putting way more $$$ into this than I'm wanting. Thanks.

Hey there, first, I was wondering if I could get some tips to help me with this pine needle material and what I can do to make it more realistic. Currently I'm using a diffuse color, a reflection color and sub-surface coloring. I feel it needs another shade of some sort in there to make it look a lot better.
I posted a pic of the scene from Blender, which is where I originally started this project but came to Houdini for the much better water and amazing system. As you can see, however, the I feel I was able to achieve a much better result in Blender. Any ideas how to better get there?
I can upload the file as well if that would help to get a better look at what my settings are…
And second, I also have it set in Houdini for my camera to render at 1080x1920, yet it renders 720. How do I get it to render at 1080?
((Houdini pic on top, Blender on bottom.))
EDIT: sorry I'll try to get a better quality image for houdini.

Thanks DaJuice, it looks like it was the cropping on the camera! Somehow a slider was changed, not sure how. My mouse is buggy and sometimes clicks when I don't want it to, really need to just go grab a new one, could have been that. Thanks everyone for the help!!!

Yeah, it still does the same thing when I render straight to disk…
Here are my settings below, I clicked Render to Disk but same thing happens.

This just started happening. Only the far right edge of the scene renders then stops. It was rendering just fine before I just imported some more objects into the scene, then it started doing this. Not sure what I broke…

Thanks guys, you were right, that $F variable was the issue due to there bing a number to designate several files. So it was choosing a collection of files of say tree01, tree02, and tree03 rather than one single file. Ticking that box robsdesign did the trick! Thanks very much for all the help, glad to see there is a good community of support in this forum!

Hmm, after the successful atempts at loading the obj's if I edited the models in some way it properly saves and can be reloaded after restarting the program… Not sure why but here's hoping it continues to work and I don't lose my work down the road.

@circusmonkey: Yeah haven't moved any of the obj files at any point in time.
@robsdesign: Pressing G centers my viewport yet nothing is there. Middle clicking on the file node actually reveals an error as you can see in the screenshot below.

So I'm having issues importing and saving models in Houdini Apprentice 15.5.673 Windows 10. Half the time when I import an obj there is no mesh brought in, but there is the node indicating the model in the side panel and that the model is not hidden. Sometimes a model successfully imports, other times it doesn't. I am exporting Obj's from Blender and sometimes I have to try multiple exports for an obj to load into Houdini.
Once I've actually gotten my models imported, I save the file and close. Next time I go to open the Houdini file there is nothing there except the nodes for the meshes on the right hand side again. No models though. I've tried selecting the node for the mesh and scaling it up, but nothing appears. This is happening every time. I feel like I always have the worst of luck trying new programs and they always bug out on me half the time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just recently downloaded Houdini and set up the Apprentice license. I used it for a day just fine and now the day after upon load-up it now again prompts me for the type of license I would like to set up (again). I click Apprentice again to continue load-up of the program then I receive the following error and the program fails to load. Any help?
