I must confess i am experiencing the same because I use a tablet and the moment I press down there is such a tiny gap that end up not picking things… We should report this.

I am struggling to architect what I have in mind and it may be quite simple but… somehow I just don't get how to connect the dots.
Attached is a file with a fractured sphere (thin shell) and a small obstacle inside moving fast, I want to break/weaken the glue constraint based on the impact data from this particular object but not the ground.
At the moment the sphere gets moved around by the obstacle, instead, the sphere should break on contact with the bullet, but not against the floor.
Thanks in advance.
PS. All the elements inside the attached scene are using the shelf tools…

Looks great.
Regarding your questions…
1) The best route in my humble opinion would be to use a git repository so you can easily pull the environment files, nodes, scritps, etc… in one convenient way and allow for super-easy updates. Check qLib for how it has been done with Houdini, very very nice approach.
2) Regarding manipulations, I am not sure if there is a way to do what you want in its current form, my suggestion is to write support, they do listen way more than you would imagine.
hope it helps
jb
BTW. The scale may be an issue… you really will want to review it on 1 unit = 1 meter. (my 2 cents)

Very true McNistor, for this very reason soon I will be opening the gates to contributors (let's see if anyone is interested…) right now my Saturday morning and a bit on Sunday is the only time free I have to do this so it's slow as you can imagine.
This time around will be more focused on Houdini with references and inserts on both XSI and Maya instead.

Well, considering the patience you all had I wanted to break the news that I am now officially working on the new guides and hopefully soon will be in a position to add some info here.
I am very keen on having some quotes from Houdini artists and/or artists that have transitioned (with or without the help of my guides) to Houdini for the new book as I want to add a nice layout and quotes could be fun and a very human touch to it.
Send me a direct message better (that way we keep them secret ;-)

I would love to have a physical camera model in Houdini as well, controlling it would allow things to fall into place nicely (lighting levels, exposure, DoF, revisualisation and narrative issues…) and although circusmomnkey is right that there may be some readjustments/drawbacks I personally value more a coherent camera/light/shader environment.

My feeing is that it is using pyro but feeding a custom built wind force with turbulence to achieve those beautiful swirls.

The problem with takes is that they are not that procedural workflow friendly although you can it is not ideal and therefore are used little (in my experience) so i can only talk about how I use them.
I use takes mostly to do override of parameters for animation variations and testing options when I send to the farm things and not much more.
There have been cases in which I had to maintain a parallel configuration of the scene and it's object parameters and therefore in that case it has been very useful so it's a very personal thing.
hope it helps

Fantastic release, can't wait to get my hands on the new rigging system, this will be a total killer for animators.
A word of caution, I would suggest not to go to crazy with the node network icons and allow the user to use the current ones if he prefers to do so, just saying.
Same than radial menues, great addition but let's not break shortcuts, they are too important.
KUDOS once again… amazing to see the speed of development.

Isn't this a case of creating for those objects inside your digital asset various “handles” in your DA to interact with the exterior?
I recall a tutorial with a simple pill that showcases the approach to create visual handles.
Sorry I can't be more specific but I am not in front of the workstation

Just starting to use DOP I/O so first time really that i noticed.
jkunz07
Ah yes, sorry I got confused.
Did it ever work with the DOP i/o, or is that what had just stopped working recently?

It does work on a regular output driver, $N gets evaluated as expected but it does not on a DOP i/o which I was kind of expecting.
The thing I am doing is oversampling the sequence (let's say steps steps of .25) and then output it as an integer so it will effectively be like a slow motion render.
mm…. well, I guess I will have to use $FF and then do it by hand.

CORRECTION, IT DOES NOT WORK EITHER ON MY MAC…
Strange because it seems to work on my Mac… the Windows box does not seem to be working… Will try updating the version and see.
Will keep you posted
