Is it by any chance something like creating local material parameters on the object itself?
jordibares
In Softimage Overrides are properties to be attached to the object, not a scene level status. This means I can use them just of one object and encapsulate it on a external model.

Well, my take (pun intended) on this would be that takes as you've said are overrides and they should be used like ones. While in certain cases you definitely can override whole material (i.e. rgb mates).
I'd rather brake object into separate discreet objects, assign materials in object level, and use overrides for some parameters.
But as you've said - it all depends on the case.

personally i would much rather prefer for houdini to merge/import my hip file into the current scene, and not open a new one that way you can have useful snippets of scenes and setups in your separate folder/drawer

I used to have the same issues some time ago, but then i did something
If I understand correctly it the problem with dual monitor set-up, could you describe what it consists of? what GPU(s) you have?
drivers?
what monitors?
are they identical?
how are they set up? A-B? which one is set as primary display in windows? you are using windows, right?
btw, Houdini really dislikes negative space (lower left corner of primary window is at (0, 0).
P.S. problem seems to be windows related some possible sollutions ->http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/7f4543cf-874d-4a39-bea5-34a824e4c0ce/pop-under-dialog-boxes-in-win-7-ultimate?forum=w7itproui [social.technet.microsoft.com]

hi takita,
regarding windows popping in background i think its an issue with gpu drivers/ os, but it was supposed to be solved long ago, i don't recall exactly why it was happening, but i'll try to look for it on the forums when i'll get some free time.

Hi there,
how does one actually uninstall asset that was previously downloaded/purchased so that its not in orbolt asset browser any more?
there is no option in account>>overview and uninstalling from orbolt asset browser doesn't function the way I expect it to.
For instance I've downloaded asset called “grid” and now every time I try to create grid, the first one that gets listed is asset from orbolt not the actual default grid, even if I choose uninstall in orbolt asset browser, it still gets listed as grid(uninstalled) and sends me to orbolt which is even worse.

Technical Discussion » Scaling concave shapes

Hi,
I'm having problems to “scale” a concave polygon. Let's say my polygon is L-shaped (or even worse). I need to reduce its size a little bit, but I need the resulting polygon to be INSIDE the original shape, …
Any ideas on how to do that scaling?
try using “inset” instead of scale

in a rule 3 and 4 aswell you have:
A=(30)A:0.1
what does it stand for? i mean value set in brackets stands for operator to override default valuein your case there is none. Maybe i'm wrong but removing it removes those flicks too.

$PT is a point number, which may vary if your particles die.
$ID is particle id which is unique to every particle. (which starts from 1 not from 0 so i forgot to substract 1 from it ))

you don`t need for each sop for that, only delete to isolate group of primitives and transform to put them to center
is this what you were after?
