I've been having this issue for some time now, every time I try to make a group out of some selected geometry it feels like hit or miss.
Let's say I have some imported geometry, I select the polygons I want to use in the group, right click on the import SOP's output and add a Group Geometry node. Most of the time it won't take the selection and assume I want the entire object to be part of the group…Is this a common beginner mistake?
Thanks
Alex

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Render region buggy?

I have been noticing that render region acts weird for me after a couple of iterations, especially with particle fluids. It will render a couple of times, then just not work, and mplayer won't launch either if I try to create a mantra frame render.
Only quitting and restarting Apprentice will fix the issue. Does this sound like an issue with my install or a common problem?
Thanks

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Modelling a faucet

Hi
I'm testing a first project from scratch in Apprentice. I want to model a faucet and have water flowing out of it.
What would be the best way to approach the faucet model? In a different piece of software I would use a spline to outline the shape of the faucet and revolve it, then would boole that with a tube to create another tube coming from the top to create the handle (as in this image : http://www.co.carver.mn.us/departments/LWS/images/faucet.jpg [co.carver.mn.us])
Would there be a more houdini-centric way of doing this that I could learn from?
Thanks

What is the best way to create a single .sim file to be written to disk?
I want to write a single frame to use as initial state in my AutoDopNetwork.
If I add a File Dop and hit play it seems like there is no clear indication when I have to stop the sim to be sure the .sim file is not being overwritten.
Thanks

Hello world
My name is Alex, this is my first post
I'm currently learning Houdini using the free learning version, and it seems like the FileDop node does't want to write .sim files
Is that one of the limitations of this version? Is it possible to use it to read .sim files?
Thanks
Alex
