I wonder why it goes nuts at 1-2, but works at values lower than 1, and higher than 2?

That's better, thanks! I didn't think that anything over 1 would do anything useful, given that a value of 1 produces such a strange result and the default is .1.

It appears to be the fact that the Copy SOP is showing its guide as X-ray, and X-ray in GL2.1 adjusts the colors during the x-ray pass. It is likely not restoring them correctly. I can't reproduce the issue in GL3.3, though.
I get the issue in GL3.3 as well (Windows 7, gtx 780ti).

I'm getting an unexpected behavior withe the Smooth SOP - I've turned it way up in order to illustrate the point and compared it to what I get out of the Sculpt SOP set to smooth, which is much closer to what I'd expect (see below, file attached). I'm getting a weird bias towards the corners in the cube example which creates an unwanted bulge in the surface, and the issue presents itself in every circumstance to varying degrees. Tweaking the values changes the result but never completely eliminates it. The problem seems to manifest itself as geometric curvatures approach 90 degrees and beyond.

This fix only affects incorrect selection & picking for very large meshes. Which selection problem are you referring to? The selections appearing black?
The issue was that occasionally the selection (points, polygons, etc.) wouldn't register in any way if I attempted to select all of the geometry using the marquee selection. If I selected only part of the geometry, the selection always worked - the primary difference there I'm guessing was that the selection marquee contacts the underlying geometry with a partial selection, but not in the case of a total selection.
I'm using 13.0.357 now and haven't run into the issue yet, crossing my fingers. I'm going to be into it tonight, we'll see.
Now, if only we could get the new snapping…

I tend to apply the images as background images for each view (“d” for “display options” in the viewport, under the “Background” tab, position and scale as appropriate).

A little different here - EditSop is placed on top of the last node- os X, H13.0350.
Yeah, I've seen that one a lot too. Bug submitted.
UPDATE: sculpt SOP has the same issue, H13.0.357.

Instantiating the tool isn't a problem, my issue is in invoking an unwired tool in the viewport and it's subsequent node position in the network editor.

Hi edward, long time no see, hope you're well! I was about a half an hour away from attending the last SESI technical evening and then got called away last minute.
You raise some good points, especially with regards to multiple network views. I'd love the ability to be able to tab/curve SOP in the viewport and the key-command-single-click in a network pane in order to place/reposition the new node easily without having to hunt for it.

I also didn't realize you did the previous one for performance reasons since it's using 2 pass now like you said, but it's worth it.
Agreed.

The edit SOP seems to be the biggest culprit, who's placement often seems to be arbitrary (see below). All of the SOPs are created in-line vertically, as expected, but the edit SOP wasn't - any idea as to why this is?

I'm still having the selection problem in the latest build (13.0.353), despite the 13.0.349 bug fix:
Tuesday, March 11, 2014
Houdini 13.0.349: Fixed a bug with primitive and vertex selections & attributes on large meshes, which are diced up for efficient GPU drawing in the viewport. Things like primitive selections and attributes would be indexed incorrectly after dicing.

This is incredibly frustrating. Point snapping was once fairly dependable and it has become increasingly volatile over the last few releases to the point where it almost doesn't work at all, and it's taking me twice as long as it should to model as a result.
Like I said in another thread I was meant to do a series of modeling tutorials for an online training resource but I ran into so many issues in 12 and 13 that I couldn't get through 5 minutes of recording without running into an issue so I stopped.

I guess you can't tell me when that will be.
Just crashed again, simple geo manipulation in SOP space, no crash log. (GL 3.3).
