I have the most recent version of Houdini installed on my new computer (64 bit, Vista).

Most common error is 5428 Fatal error Segmentation Fault

For example, if I made a grid and set the row and columns to 20 x 20, respectively and then hit enter, all is well. However, increasing this value to 30 X 30 the program closes down with the above “Fatal error Segmentation Fault” appears.

Love this program! Any suggestions on how I can get this to work on my new computer?

Merci!

When you up-res the grid are you entering the values by typing them in the parameter fields, or using the parameter ladder? If you are using the ladder then I suspect it may be an issue with the graphics card/driver.

And per your questions, I am typing in the fields….not using ladder.

In short, any large files or activity will crash the system. Do you recommend using a different driver?

up the amount of virtual ram on your computer. And save often. I have an ATI card and crash often too. Usually running sims. I have plenty of ram but houdini only uses 2 gigs before it gives me a segment fault. It may be ATI. Who knows.
