Hi,
I'm a senior Maya user and I want to test Houdini. I’m totally inexpert with Houdini and I have same question.
1. Fillet. I have try to create a circular fillet between two circle but I havent the success that I hope. Can someone tell me why?

2. In the office I use Maya and I try Houdini in free time. Can I change Houdini hotkey like Maya Hotkey?

3. In Character Animation field what are the benefit of Houdini instead Maya Character Animation?

Note: I have buy a 3dBuzz Advanced Character Rigging (I – II) but in 8 hours they don’t tell anything about skinning…

Thans to all. Excuse me my english and my inexperience.

Hi Gianmarco,

have a look at my fillet solution. Nurbs in houdini can be a bit of a hassle.

As for the hotkeys, yes you can change some but i am not sure if you could mimic the keys in maya.

Also not sure about q3 but iirc The Wild was completely done in houdini, was kind of a test case for characters and hair and worked pretty well. Did you have a look at the quadrupped rigging tutorial from Sidefx?

Hope this answers some of your questions, others will probably fill in.

Not sure how you got the results you did with the circles, but check out the Curvesect settings I have in the attached file.
The left side is “Keep Odd numbered” and the right side is “Keep Even numbered”.

The Wild and more recently SuperWhy (http://pbskids.org/superwhy/) [pbskids.org] were done in Houdini….

I don't think you'll find and ‘advantages’ or ‘disadvantages’ in character animation in Houdini vs. Maya (although the channel editor is much better in Houdini)…the basics are the same, just different methods…I will say that Houdini may take a little longer to setup, but you get a lot of control an flexibility.
