Hi all,

Recently, I made some models in 3ds max , and I want use these models to be a matte shading in houdini. The purpose is all fx will be made in houdini.

But now, I'd noticed camera can not transfer into houdini accurately. Is there any way to make it?

Please help me, thank you very much!

I suppose you're using FBX? Do you have the latest version of the FBX export for 3D Max?

I dont understand what you mean.

You mean I have to export my “Camera” to FBX?

Is it?

(I want to export camera, not model.)

you can export your camera to an .fbx file, and import that file into houdini. .fbx does not only work for geometry !

yes i got it, but as we know there is a knid of camera without perspective called “user” in 3dsmax, how could it work in maya or houdini?

further more, is there other way to modify camera to non-perspective?

thanks for your reply!

(in 3dsMAX)
“user” camera in MAX is not really a camera object in scene, you cannot select it so i doubt you can transfer it. And now i think it is called “orthographic”
but any camera object in max you can turn into orthographic(non-perspective) by checking Orthographic Projection checkbox in camera properties

(in Houdini)
you can change the camera to orthographic in camera properties/View tab
there is parameter called Projection
but orthographic camera from MAX should fbx transfer to Houdini as orthographic as well
one thing you may need to adjust is Ortho Width (also in camera properties/View tab) if the fbx import will not do it for you
(i do not know how MAX is calculating ortho width but i think that by observing it you can figure out the math needed for it to match in houdini)

I am sure that in maya you can turn camera into ortho as well
